A court here on Thursday sentenced four people to life term imprisonment in a murder case. The convicts are Golzar, Abdul Latif alias Natu Mandal, Jalil and Khalil of Khaikar upazila in Saghata upazila.

The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment (RI). According to the prosecution, Saidur Rahman had a family feud with his neighbour Golzar. Following the feud, Goilzar's musclemen beat up Saidur's nephew Waliur Rahman on August 12, 1998. He was rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he died. Later, Saidur Rahman filed a murder case with Saghata thana against 15 people.

After examining the records and witnesses Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Sharif Uddin Azad handed down the verdict. The court also acquitted 11 others as allegations against them could not be proved.
