Blasphemous act: Islamic parties stage demos
Hizbuth Tahrir activists go on rampage on the city streets after offering Juma prayer at Baitul Mokarram National Mosque on Friday demanding the cancellation of the publication of The Daily Prothom Alo and Weekly 2000 as police trying to calm them down. Staff Reporter Several Islamic parties and organisations yesterday staged angry demonstrations demanding ban on the daily Prothom Alo and weekly magazine 2000 and also the immediate arrest of the editors. After parading several city roads after the juma prayer, they also held a rally in front of the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque from where they announced to submit a memorandum to the Chief Adviser of the Caretaker Government in this regard.They staged demonstration and held rally in protest against the publication of a cartoon story dishonouring Prophet Muhammad (SM). During the demonstration, they also set fire to some copies of daily Prothom Alo. Some of the protestors also scuffled with the law-enforcers when they were barred. When contacted, Paltan police said none was arrested in this connection. Under the banner of 'All Parties Resistance Committee' banner, the parties and organisations, including Islamic Constitution Movement (ICM), Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Khelafat Mazlish, Khelafat Andolan, International Khatm-e-Nabuwat Movement, Nezam-e-Islami and Islamic Oikay Andolan, staged the demonstration. According to witnesses, the protestors paraded roads at Purana Paltan, Dainik Bangla, Bijoynagar and adjacent areas.
