ICM opposes ban on religion based parties

Chief of Islamic Constitution Movement and Pir of Charmonai Maulana Mufti Rezaul Karim said Jamaat was not an Islamic party as its ideology contradicts the Holy Quran.

He also demanded trial of the war criminals and the people under whose patronisation every time they escaped from punishment in the past 36 years.

He said those who opposed the Liberation War of the country were war criminals and not only Jamaat but also other political parties were involved in war crime.

Maulana Rezaul Karim strongly protested the demand for banning religion based political parties and said if the Election Commission did so they would launch movement against them.

The ICM chief told this yesterday at a press conference protesting the demand for banning the religion based political parties at the Party's head office at Purana Paltan.

In a written speech he said his party was not invited by the EC for the dialogue. He claimed as per the constitution of the country, religion-based politics was allowed and demanded ban on the politics of the left leaning parties who were demanding ban on religion-based politics.

Secretary General of the party Maulana Nurul Huda, Presidum member Maulana Mosaddek Billah, Organising Secretary Prof Belaet Hossain-Al-Madani and Publicity Secretary Gazi Ataur Rahman of the party, among others, were present at the press conference.
