Jamaica wins one-day final

Reuters, Bridgetown

Jamaica defeated Trinidad and Tobago by 28 runs to win the West Indies one-day cricket tournament on Sunday at the Three Ws Oval.

Jamaica made 230 all out off 50 overs and restricted Trinidad and Tobago to 202 in 49.3 overs to dethrone the defending champions in front a crowd of 4,000 at the picturesque venue.

It was Jamaica's first limited-overs title since 1999 and brought a rousing climax to the first West Indies tournament under lights.

Two sensational catches and a brilliant run out by Shawn Findlay were the highlights for Jamaica, while fast bowler Jerome Taylor bowled with pace and accuracy to take three for 37. Off-spinner Chris Gayle took three for 32.

"It was brilliant night for Jamaica cricket and we are delighted as a team to come here and win the title," said Taylor, who won the man-of-the-match award.

"We were well set-up by the batsmen and then I just had to go out there and bowl my heart out.

"There was no reason to hold back. This was the final and we had to let it all out."
