Short comments
Justice delayed, justice denied: Cases of VIPs and riceh in judicial courts, High Court and Supreme Court are attended quickly but those of poor and common people slowly.
B. Chowdhury wants national govt: Empty vessel sounds much. Would any political leader including B. Chowdhury kindly sacrifice his own interest and recommend the name of any other political leader or person to head the national govt and thus arrive at a consensus before 2008 election?
Zebra crossing: DMP always request the pedestrians to use the zebra crossing. Would DMP tell us how many Zebra crossings are there and where they are in Dhaka?
Garment workers and Bangladeshi expatriates: They are poor and illiterate but earn millions of dollars for garment owners, man-power recruiting agents and our govt. but why don't they get salaries for their hard work, sweat and blood?
Taxi/CNG drivers: Most of them refuge to carry the passengers on various pretexts. When we lodge a complaint and seek help from traffic police sergents and police constable the law enforcing agencies remain as silent spectators. Why so?
Weekly Holiday: 2 days weekly holiday on Friday and Saturday or 3 days weekly holiday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on account of closure of all diplomatic missions, foreign organisations, international trade and commerce and banking on Sunday.
The sufferings of the members of public know no bounds due to visit of large number of people, heavy crowd in govt offices, banks, hospitals, post offices and commercial establishments and tumultuous road traffic jams on the last day of weekly working day on Thursday and first day of weekly working day of Monday. Would our govt. do something to mitigate the sufferings of the people?
Pajero jeep worth Taka 26 lakh for UNO: A Pajero jeep costs Taka 26 lakh for an UNO. What would be the price of a govt transport for a goft officer of a higher rank and status say SDO, DC, Deputy Secretary, Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary and Secretary and what about protocol?

Democracy in Myanmar a far cry
The Myanmar Government has apparently been successful in watering the anti-government agitation initiated by the monks. It is because the priests failed to draw the people's supports, and to regroup. There are other reasons as well. The Burmese Government has been fighting the ultra-left Curren rebels for years together. The Curren rebels once had the blessings of Chinese Government (but we do not the strategic relations between them at present). Yet, the Rangoon Government always maintains a very cordial relationship with Beijing in order to counter the USA pressure for democratic rules. On the other hand, the USA does not want to do anything that paves the way for the rising of the ultra-leftists to power. India, a big neighbour, hardly dares shoot a Burmese national or loot away crops from the Myanmar soil for fear of losing trade interests. But unfortunately, the Indian Border Security Force is very much prompt to carry on such unfriendly activities with Bangladesh making it a regular routine.
The government of Myanmar understands it well and exploits accordingly. So, the return of democracy in Myanmar is a far cry.
