27 nabbed on various charges in 3 dists

Police arrested 23 persons, from different parts of the district on Wednesday.

The arrested persons included alleged murderers, absconding warrantees, drug traders, traffickers and peddlers, terrorists and anti-social elements.

Police also recovered good quantities of phensidyl and other illegal objects during the drives.

Kotwali Police arrested nine persons, Panchbibi five, Akkelpur seven and Kalia police arrested two criminal during the period.

The arrested persons were sent to jail hajat after police produced them before different Joypurhat courts on Thursday.

BSS Brahmanbaria adds: Police arrested a listed smuggler from bordering Akhaura Upazila in the district on Wednesday.

He was identified as Abu Taher, 45, of Rajendrapur village under Mogra Union in the Upazila. Police said acting on a tip-off, they arrested Taher from Naoghat at Barabazar in Sadar Upazila of the district.

Officer-in-charge of Akhaura thana Mohammad Shajahan Kabir said Taher is a top-listed smuggler in the upazila and accused in 11 cases filed with different police stations in the district.

Meanwhile police arrested three gamblers red- handed while gambling in a house in village Kumarganj Bazar under Mithapukur Upazila here on Tuesday night.

Police sources said, a police team led by Officer-in-charge of Mithapukur police station Ohidul Islam conducted a sudden raid to the area and arrested the gamblers red-handed while they were gabbling in a room.

The police also seized various inputs and materials generally used for gambling from their possessions during the raid.

The arrested persons are: Lutfar Rahman, 40, Moktar Hossain, 25 and Shahinur Mia, 40, of the same area.

A case was filed in this connection with Mithapukur police station and the arrested were sent to jail hajat when police produced them before a Rangpur Court today, the sources said.
