Hail Mother Durga

This Photostory is dedicated to Photographer’s mother

Late Sultana Sharifa Shaheed, who passed away recently in Chittagong.

'Sharadia Durga Puja' is the most significant religious festival of the Bengali Hindus. Durga Puja is celebrated from the sixth to tenth day in the month of ' Ashwin'. The pujas are held over a ten-day period, which is traditionally viewed as the coming of the married daughter, Durga, to her father, Himalaya's home. Bengalis celebrate this festival with special sweets, new clothes and other gifts. Durga Puja in Bengal is a carnival, where people from all backgrounds, regardless of their religious beliefs, participate and enjoy themselves.

Through the emersion of Goddess Durga Hindu devotees end their puja on the day of 'Dashami', the last day of the festival. Durga is the symbol of triumph of good over evil in Hindu mythology. Like every year the devotees in Bangladesh have celebrated the event with enthusiasm and religious fervour. There were no reports of untoward incidents in any part of the country.
