Two BR police officials suspended due to negligence in duties

Bangladesh Railway (BR) Police authorities have suspended Officer-in-charge of Mymensingh GRP Mustafizur Rahman and In-charge of Gafargon Railway Police outpost Assistant Sub-inspector Prafullah Kumar for negligence in performing their duties.
The action was taken against them after two passengers were killed and another two injured when some unidentified robbers had thrown these people from the rooftop of a Bahadurabad Ghat-bound train on Friday last.
Superintendent of Mymensingh Railway Station Nazrul Islam and suspended OC of GRP Mustafizur Rahman admitted the suspension of two officers. The suspended duo were sent to jail hajat today, railway sources said.
A high-level team led by Superintendent of Railway Police of Chittagong Range Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman visited Gafargoan Railway Station and the accident spots at Rouha Kalirhat, Charipara and Maizhati. Later talking to reporters, the team leader said an organised gang does such crime with those travelling on the rooftop of passenger trains.
Meanwhile, some 29 passengers were arrested from Gafargoan and Mymensingh Railway Stations for travelling on the roof of passenger trains.
Inspector of Railway Police Circle, Dhaka Range, Abdus Sattar conducted a raid at Gafargaon Railway Station and caught four passengers while travelling on the rooftop of a train on Monday.
Voter registration process begins in Lalmonirhat

The work for preparing voter list with photograph and national identity card has began at Lalmonirhat Pourashava on Sunday.
The District Election Office (DEO) with the cooperation of Bangladesh Army has been carrying out the task.
A meeting was held in this connection at the Zila Parishad auditorium with Deputy Commissioner of Lalmonirhat Mohammd Rafiqul Islam in the chair while Brig. General Mohammd Ferdous Mia was present as the chief guest.
Among others, district election officer Mohammad Shahjahan Ali, Chairman of Lalmonirhat Pourasabha Mosharraf Hossain Rana and Lt. Lolonel AKM Anisuzzaman of Rangpur Army Camp.
Eleven centers have been set up in the Pourashba area for preparing of voter list photographs and national identity cards. Another 11 centres will be seet up soon to complete the preparation of voter list within October 29 next.
After completion of preparing of voter list in the Pourashabha areas, the process will be started at Sadar Upazila and other Upazilas of the district phases and completed by March 25, 2008, sources said.
Three killed in separate incidents in 3 districts

Two youths were killed in two separate train accidents in Nilphamari and Gaibandha districts during the past two days.
Police sources said a youth was killed on the spot after being hit by the Dinajpur bound 7-Up train while he was talking over mobile telephone on the rail track at Chapadaho point near Kuptola Rail Station in Sadar Upazila of Gaibandha on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Nazmul Khondker, 30, son of late Mozahar Ali of village Uttar Kholahati in Sadar Upazila of Gaibandha.
In another incident, Sorbesh Ali, 22, son of Afzal Hossain Sheikh of village Taronibari under Domar Upazila in Nilphamari, was killed after being hit by a Khulna bound Local train from Chilahati at a place near Taronibari Rail Station on Monday.
Two separate UD cases were filed in these connections with the concerned GRP thanas of Bangladesh Railway, the sources said.
UNB, Chandpur adds: A young man was crushed under the wheels of a train at Chandpur Railway Court Station in the district town on Monday morning.
Railway police said a Chittagong-bound inter-city train ran over M Mainuddin, 27, of Mulpara village in Faridganj Upazila, at about 11:30 AM when he was crossing the rail-line.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the Chandpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Another report from Savar adds: A beggar was crushed under the wheels of a bus at Rajful Baria bus-stand on Dhaka-Aricha highway in the afternoon.
Witnesses said a speeding bus knocked down Abdur Rashid, 55, at about 1:30pm when he was begging alms standing beside the road, killing him on the spot.
Separate cases were filed with the respective police stations.
Certificate awarding ceremony of BAF flying instructors course held
The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of No 38 Flying Instructors' Course of Bangladesh Air Force was held here at BAF Flying Instructors School Tuesday. Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman attended the ceremony as chief guest and distributed certificates among the student-officers.
Squadron Leader Ashfaqur Rahman Khan was adjudged the best all-round student-officer and was awarded with the 'Mofiz Trophy', says a press release. Five officers from Bangladesh Air Force attended the course.
Speaking to the student-officers on the occasion Chief of Air Staff said that Flying Instructors should always be alert to set the correct examples before their students through their conduct, behaviour and personal examples. Dedicated flying instructors should be capable of imparting instruction and guidance with patience and proficiency, he observed. He further said that quality training is an important step in attaining credible operational capability.
Among others, Principal Staff Officers of Air Headquarters, General Officer Commanding of 11 Infantry Division Major General Mohammad Shamim Chowdhury and senior BAF officers were present on the occasion.
Farmer shot dead by BSF in Thakurgaon

A Bangladeshi farmer was shot dead by Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) at Kochol border under Ranisankul Upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.
BDR sources said the victim was identified as Monjur Hossain,35, of Vaturia village under Horipur Upazila. When he reached Kochol border area close to pillar no 345/2, members of Kairadangi BSF camp suddenly sprayed bullets on him.

Arms recovered

Acting on a secret information DSB police Bagerhat conducted a raid on night in a house of Sonatala village PS Bagerhat Sadar and recovered two pipe guns. Having perceived the presence of police people, the miscreants managed to escape from the PO daving the arms in nearby place.
It is also heard from police source that these criminals were getting themselves ready to commit dacoity some, where else.
Durga Puja observed
The biggest Hindu festival, the Durga Puja ended here peacefully. For the last five days in 415 places, the religious festival was observed with due solemnity and unprecedented enthusiasm and religious fervor.
The local Administration took every possible measure to restore normalcy. Every where peace and tranquillity prevailed, peaceful co-existence was highly exhibited. Traditional communal harmony marked everywhere which deserved commendable appreciation.
Two killed in road mishap
A tragic road accident occurred on the Khulna-Mongla Highway at Sukdar point, on Monday, while a Mongla-bound Bus bearing No Pirojpur-J-05-0038 collided with a motor cycle, Motorcycle driver Khalilur Rahman (20) died on the spot and passenger Mosharraf Hosain (20) sustained grienious injuries on his persons. Both the deceased and the wounded person are the inhabitant of Bharashapur village, Ranjal P-S, police on duty seized the slayer bus and motorcycle was heavily damaged. A case has been lodged with the local PS.

Acting upon secret information PIO Rampal recovered of relief 70 p.c. CI sheet from one Abdullah S/C Jabbar SK of Gobindapur, village which was sold him by a social criminal Yunus Ali Mullick of Hosoldanga, Rampal PS.

A protest meeting was held today at Bagerhat Bar Association Auditorium with Sah-e-Alam Bachu president, Bar Association is the chair, to condemn and protest the heinous designs of some unruly officials defying the decision of the HC regarding the separation of Judiciary from the Executive. Speakers among others. Advocate Azad Firoj Tipu, Fazlur Rahman, Shamsul Hoque, Mozaffar Ahmed, Showkat Ali, spoke on the occasion.

Man hacked to death in Sirajganj
SIRAJGANJ, Oct 25: Assailants hacked a rice trader to death at Shialkhol Bazar in Sadar Upazila early on Monday. The dead was identified as Abdus Salam, 35, of Raghunathpur village in the upazila. Local sources said the assailants attacked Salam at Shialkhol Bazar at about 1 AM on his way home and hacked him indiscriminately, killing him on the spot. Police recovered the body on Monday morning. Police suspect the killing might be a sequel to previous enmity, reports UNB.
Three killed in road mishap
KHULNA, Oct 25: Three people, including two businessmen, were killed and two others injured when a truck overturned near the toll-plaza of Khanjahan Ali Bridge, popularly known as Rupsha Bridge, on Monday morning. Police said the vegetable-laden truck from Nirala kitchen market in the city started for Madaripur at 8.30 AM. While crossing the bridge at about 9 AM the driver lost control over the steering and the vehicle after hitting an electric pole turned turtle killing the three on the spot, reports UNB.
Housewife injured in acid attack
JESSORE, Oct 25: A housewife sustained severe burn injuries when miscreants threw acid on her at Andaikhola village in Bagharpara Upazila on Saturday night. The victim was identified as Chaina Begum, 27, wife of Milan Hossain of the village. Neighbours said a gang of local terrorists including Ahad Ali, Majed Ali and Badsha hurled acid at her at dead of night while she was sleeping with her husband and a minor child in the veranda of their house. The terrorists also threatened Chaina to kill her husband if she disclose their names to police. Local people rushed her to the district General Hospital where her condition was stated to be critical, reports UNB.
Son kills father in Comilla
COMILLA, Oct 25: A sexagenarian man was murdered allegedly by his son at Nimsar village in Burichang Upazila on Sunday morning. Local people said Jahir Raihan Dalim, son of Haji Abdus Samad Master, 68, of the village, married his fiancée a few days ago and since then he had been insisting his family to accept their marriage. They said an altercation took place in the morning with his father when he refused to accept the marriage and at one stage Jahir hacked him to death. Neighbors caught Jahir soon after the incident and handed over him to police. Later, the body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed, reports UNB.
JCD leader killed in road accident
SYLHET, Oct 25: A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader was killed in a tragic road accident in Nabiganj upazila on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Habiganj district on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Masum Ahmed, son of late Syed Ali of Karimpur village in the Upazila, also a senior executive committee member of Sylhet city JCD unit. Witnesses said the mishap occurred at about 4 PM when a Dhaka-bound speedy bus dashed the motorcycle of Masum while he was returning from his village home to his residence on the outskirts of the city after offering 'fateha' at his father's grave. Local people rushed Masum to the Osmani Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead, reports UNB.
