RPO lottery of Islami Bank held

Lottery for Repeat Public Offer (RPO) of Mudaraba Perpetual Bond of Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd was held yesterday at Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre in the city.



Foreign & Local Directors and Executives of the Bank including Prof. Abu Nasser Muhammad Abduz Zaher, Chairman, Board of Directors, Fariduddin Ahmad, Executive President, and Shouqat Ali, Executive Vice President and Company Secretary along with the representatives of Securities and Exchange Commission, Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange were present at the lottery function.



This lottery function was conducted by the Professors of Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology in the presence of the applicants.

Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited offered applications for Repeat Public Offer (RPO) of Mudaraba Perpetual Bond worth Tk 150 crore. In response to the above mentioned Bond total Tk 324 crore and 84 lakh was submitted by applicants while the total number of applications were 5,24,196 and after the lottery the Bond of Tk. 150 crore allotted among the applicants.

Legal notice served: Cancellation of appointment of Dr Debapriya demanded

A legal notice has been served to Chief Adviser, Foreign Affairs Adviser, Foreign Secretary and Establishment Secretary demanding cancellation of appointment of Dr Debapriya Bhattachariya as Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN Office in Geneva.

Advocate Md Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan served the notice on behalf of Mustafa Minhaj of 370 Malibag Chowdhuripara saying that Dr Debapriya Bhattachariya is not eligible for the post as he is married with a foreign national.

He referred to the section 3(1) and (4) of the Public Servants (Marriage with Foreign Nationals) Ordinance 1976 (Ordinance No. LVII of 1976) which stated, " A public servant in diplomatic service shall not marry or promise to marry a foreign national. A public servant who contravenes the provisions of sub-section (1) shall not withstanding any thing contained in any other law or in the terms and conditions of his service, be liable to be removed from service."

Terming the appointment of Dr Bhattachariya illegal, Advocate Amin urged the government to cancel the appointment within October 29 noncompliance with which may result legal action.

It may be mentioned here that Dr Debapriya Bhattachariya is married with one Irina Bhattachariya, a Russian national.

Woman chargesheeted for dual marriage

Gulshan Police recently submit charge sheet against a young women and her three family members for keeping dual marriage at a time .

According to the sources, on August 17 this year Nadim Morshid, a young lady got married with one Sajid Haque who is a Ph. D student in Columbia State University in New York.

After going to the USA, Sajid came to learn that Nadim Morshid earlier got marriage with one NM Ershaduzzaman on July 2006.

Nadin and his family members kept secrete about the first marriage to go to the USA, sources claimed adding that she kept dual marriage as she did not divorced her first husband Ershaduzzaman before getting marriage with Sajid.

Being informed about another marriage and husband of Nadim, one Zanibul Haque filled a criminal case against Nadim and his family members with Gulshan Police Station on September 29 this year.

Sub Inspector Khabiruddin , Investigating Officer of the case gave charge sheet against Nadim Murshid, KAM Murshid, Shamim Shovrana Murshid and Navin Murshid on October 22.

While talking to The New Nation SI Khabiruddin said, no accused have been arrested so far though they are trying to their best to arrest the absconding.

Bangladesh condemns PKK attacks on Turkish troops

Bangladesh strongly condemned the attacks on Turkish troops by terrorists belonging to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Speaking to media, Foreign Advisor Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury observed, "Turkey has been demonstrating remarkable patience which could understandably run out if the aggression continues". He said "We are opposed to terrorism in all forms, and the attacks on Turkish forces are totally unacceptable."

The Advisor recalled his recent meeting in New York with Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and said that "Turkey is a responsible international actor and Bangladesh's values the existing bilateral relations, and would favour widening and deepening them".

Listed terrorist held with arms in Ctg

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a listed terrorist with two firearms from Kachukhain area under Raozan upazila in the district on Wednesday night, RAB sources said here on Thursday.

According to secret information, a RAB squad conducted a raid on Kachukhain area at 7 pm on Wednesday and picked up Mohammad Akter Hossain,28, son of Shamsul Alam, with a 303 rifle and a shot gun.

Akter Hossain is a listed terrorist of Raozan thana and an accused in two criminal cases, police said.

7 criminals held in Rajshahi

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested seven alleged criminals and seized phensidyl, ganja and smuggled goods from various areas in the four northern districts during the last 24 hours ending Thursday noon, RAB sources here said.

On a tip-off, a team of the elite force raided the old hospital area in Joypurhat district and arrested Sarwar Hossain, 24, Halim Al Razi, 26, Mostofa, 26, and Momin, 28, with huge smuggled cosmetics worth about Taka 40.03 lakh after searching a truck.

In another operation at Bizul village under Birampur upazila of Dinajpur district, another RAB team seized 76 pieces of smuggled sharis in an abandoned condition.

The RAB members also seized 125 Moxacil injections along with same quantity of distilled water during a raid from the bypass area in Rajshahi city. However, none could be arrested.

They also seized contraband items, including 396 bottles of phensidyl and one kilogram of ganja, during separate drives at various places in Joypurhat and Naogaon districts, and picked up Abdul Momin, 28, Anisur Rahman, 30, and Kali Charan Paul, 52.

The arrested and the seized goods were handed over to concerned police stations.

Border management important component of bilateral ties says Iftekhar

Foreign Advisor Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury on Thursday said border management is an important component of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India.

He made the remarks to reporters after visiting Indian BSF chief A.K. Mitra made a courtesy call on him at the Foreign Ministry. Mitra is leading his country's delegation to the Director General level border conference that began here at BDR Headquarters today. The Adviser expressed his satisfaction at the on-going discussions between the BDR and the BSF and hoped that this would result in agreements that would further strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India.

"We are pleased that we have been able to structuralize negotiations with regard to these through more frequent meetings," he said. Indian High Commissioner Pinak Ranjan Chakraborty and Major General Shakil Ahmed, Director General of BDR were present among others in the meeting.

Remains of Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman to be brought back from Tripura

The government has decided to bring back the last remains of Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Hamidur Rahman in the first week of December from Indian State of Tripura, where he was buried.

The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting held at the Secretariat on Thursday with Liberation War Affairs Adviser Maj Gen (retd) MA Matin in the chair.

The meeting decided that a five-member Bangladesh delegation would remain present when the last remains of Shaheed Hamidur Rahman will be dug out from a grave at Aambasa in Tripura.

It also decided that the last remains of Shaheed Hamidur Rahman would be again laid to rest with state honour at the Martyred Intellectuals graveyard at city's Mirpur or Moheshpur in Jhenidah in consultation with his family.

Cabinet secretary Ali Imam Majumder, Liberation War Affairs secretary Dr. Abul Kasem Mahbubul Alam and representatives of the Foreign Ministry and Armed Forces Division were present in the meeting.
