Training on dev of silk industry in Comilla

A training programme on development of silk industry and cultivation of mulberry trees for silkworm began in the district on Monday.

The district Silk Extensive Department of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute organised the training programme to expand mulberry tree cultivation and develop silk industry in five upazilas in Comilla and Chandpur through imparting training to the farmers.

The officials of the department told BSS that eight thousand mulberry trees have so far been planted through 40 farmers in the upazilas.

Besides, they said, some 15,000 saplings of the mulberry trees and 450 kg cocoons through 1500 hatched-silk-worms have been produced.
