An alleged phensidyl smuggler, Alekuddin, 42, was killed during exchange of fire between the smugglers' gang and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Teestar Char in Aditmari upazila of the district early Friday.

Another alleged smuggler, Abdul Huq, injured in the shootout, has been admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. After the shootout, the RAB team recovered 98 bottles of Indian phensidyl and one shutter gun from the spot.

A case has been filed with Aditmari police station.
