Speakers at a memorial meeting here on Wednesday urged the concerned authorities to name an important road of the port city and a hall of the Chitagong Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASI) after Chairman of the Daily Purbakone late Mohammad Yousuf Chowdhury.

They said late Yousuf Chowdhury was not only a leading figure in the country's newspaper industry but also one of the pioneers, who made tremendous contribution in the rapid improvement of the dairy and poultry industry in the region and development of greater Chitagong.

Chitagong Metropolitan Union of Journalists (CMUJ) organised the meeting on Mohammad Yousuf Chowdhury, who died in the holy city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia last month.

Vice Chancellor of Chitagong University (CU) Prof. Dr. M Badiul Alam, CU Teachers Association president Prof. Siddiq Ahmed Chowdhury, Advocate Shamsuddin Ahmed Mirza, Journalists Nazir Ahmed and Iskandar Ali Chowdhury, Prof. Hasan Mohammad and Prof. Abdun Noor of CU, Acting President of Chitagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mahbubul Alam, Executive Editor of Daily Purbakone Dr. Ramijuddin Chowdhury, Editor of Daily Karnaphuli Alhaj Afsaruddin Chowdhury, Advocate S M Ebadullah, Industrialist Prof. Kamaluddin Chowdhury, Chitagong Press Club president Ali Abbas, General Secretary Ejaj Yousufee, President of Chitagong Union of Journalist Shahid-ul-Alam and General Secretary of Chitagong District Bar Association Advocate Iftekher Saimul Chowdhury took part in the discussion.

The meeting was chaired by CMUJ President Shamsul Haq Haidary and conducted by its General Secretary Mohammad Shahnowaz. It was followed by an Iftar, atended by representatives of both public and private organisations.
