The meritorious student who obtained GPA-5 in the last HSC examinations from Ragonur College in the district were accorded a reception on the premises of the college recently.

Ex Principal Professor Khairul Alam Dakua addressed the function as the chief guest chaired by principal of the college Professor Chengib Choudary.

Vice-Principal Mogahar Ali was present as special guest

The function was also addressed among others, by Prof Alimuddin, Sohili Aktar, Delara Banu and Mongila Bagam.

The speakers also urged them to devote themselves to the development of the country in future.

Later, the GPA obtained students were given crests and gifts.

Meena Day observed

With a view to creating awareness about birth registration Shishu Academy organised a function in its auditorium here on Sept 24 to mark the Meena Dibas 2007.

Vegetable seedlings distributed

Vegetable seedlings were distributed among 100 poor flood-affected farmers of Sadar upazila in the district recently.

The distribution programme was arranged on the Sadar upazila premises where UNO Mamotaje uddin distributed seedlings of vegetable among the farmers. Among others, upazila agriculture officer Deleur Hossan, up Sahakari agriculture officers SM Saiful Islam, Abdus Hamid were present

Workshop on TB control held

A roundable on the Tuberculosis (TB) Control and social participation "jointly organised by TB Control Programme. Health Directorate, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Press Club Rangpur and BRAC, was held at the District Civil Surgeon's. auditorium on September 13.

Rashid Babu, President of the Press Club, was in the chair.

A total 150 participants, including NGO officials of the Information Department, spoke at the meeting. They were Billalshah, coordinator of Health Department Rajshahi, Mahmud Jemin, social communicator, BRAC Advocacy unit Mahabub Rahman, treasurer of Press Club, worker as moderator Dr. AK Shamsuzzoha. Consultant of TB Hospital. Dr Abdur Rahuim, Civil Surgeon of Rangpur.

He said in 22 countries of the world 85 per cent are suffering from TB and 90 per cent died due to TB- related disease. Dr. Zoha said in Bangladesh TB is serious public health problem.

OMS programme functioning smoothly

Selling of rice under the governments open market sale (OMS) programme has been going smoothly in the district

According to the District Food Control office resources 176 dealers have been appointed in the district and so far 395 metric tonnes of rice was sold till September 17.

Sources said rice is being sold three days a week through the sale centres. Individuals can buy three kg of rice each Taka 19 per kg on every alternate day. Commitees at district, upazila and union levels were formed to supervise the functioning of the OMS programme.
