Mass awareness a must to control tuberculosis Our Correspondent, Jhenidah A round-table on tuberculosis control and mass participation was held at Press Club auditorium on September 27. Health Directorate, Press Club and BRAC jointly sponsored the conference. Jhenidah Press Club president MA Ansary presided over the round table while Deputy Commisoner Abu Syed Fakir inaugurated the conference as chief guest Police Super Abul Khayer, Civil Surgion Dr. Shamsul Haq, Dr. Abul Fatha, journalist Nizamuddin Zoarder, Abdus Salam, Bimal Saha, Priti Ranjan Duta and Manik Chandra Das of BRAC took part in the discussion. M, Shaiful Mabud Secretary of Press Club conducted the conference. Speakers of the conference said that Tuberculosis is a curable disease. This message must be reached to the mass people to control it Media took main part in this regard. According to statistics, 3 lakh people atacked by TB in Bangladesh every year. 70 thousand people died by this disease each year in the country. One person died of TB in each 10 minutes in Bangladesh. Tuberculosis still a heath problem in our country speakers of the conference said. An awareness must be built up among the mass people that this disease is curable to control it An active TB patient spreads germs among 10 persons through cough Health Ministry, BRAC and others NGOs took a programme to control TB by DOTS system throughout the country. Medicines have been supplied free of cost to the TB patients. Under the TB control programme death rate will come down by fifty percent, BRAC officers said in the conference. Specialists said, TB also a health hazard in 22 countries in the world. 8 million persons atacked by TB in each year, among two million patients died.
