The Bangladesh News Readers Parishad (BNRP) yesterday demanded increased honorarium saying the present rates, which continued from the pre-liberation days, are not justified.

They have also demanded implementation of the welfare fund for the news readers before the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.

The demands were raised at a discussion at the Parishad's Utara office and participants at the meeting highlighted their plights. They said news readers receive only Taka 125 to Taka 130 for a five-minute reading.

Senior news reader Shafiqul Imam presided over the meeting. Mir Afroz Zaman, Refaul Haque, SM Habibur Rahman, Nazmul Huda, Abul Ahsan Tipu, Nirala Ohab, among others, spoke on the occasion.
