Construction of Birshreshtha Mohiuddin museum in progress at Babuganj

Construction works of Birshrestho Mohiuddin Jahangir Memorial Museum is progressing at Rahimganj village of Babuganj Upazila under Barisal district

Parvin Aleter, Chief Executive Officer of Barisal District Council, said the construction work at the cost of Tk. 62.90 lakhs expected to be completed before next Victory Day on December 16, 2007.

She said under the project of construction of seven memorial museums of seven Birshreshtho, the warriors of liberation war, has been started country-wide at the birth places of those immortal freedom fighters.

Under that project Barisal district council is supervising the construction works of a one storied building for museum atached with a library at Jahangir Nagor, the native village Rahimganj named after Birshrestho Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir, she added.

Seed distributed among farmers in Natore

Seeds and seedlings of different vegetables were distributed among the farmers of Baraigram Upazila of the district under the government's post-flood agriculture rehabilitation programme.

The seed distribution programme was organised at Baraigram Upazila Parishad auditorium on Monday. Deputy Commissioner of Natore SM Ehsan Kabir inaugurated the seed distribution programme.

With UNO of Baraigram in the chair, the function was atended among others, by deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension AKM Sakhawat Hossain, Upazila agriculture officer SM Kamruzzaman,

About 10,000 seedlings of pumpkin grown by the DAE were also distributed among the farmers.

Official sources said about 4,153 farmers of Baraigram upazila were brought under the post-flood Agriculture rehabilitation programme. They will be given seeds of vegetables, pulses, maize,wheat and paddy.

Meanwhile, clothes have been distributed among the physically challenged students of Nageswari Protibondhi School at Nageswari in the district on Monday. SUID-Bangladesh and Nageswari Pourasabha jointly distributed the clothes among 36 physically impaired students including female students at a simple ceremony.

Presided over by Executive member of the school management commitee Monwar Hossain Siddiqui, the ceremony was atended by Nageswari pourasabha Chairman Mohammad Hossain Faku as the chief guest Upazila Youth Development Officer Moydan Ali, President of the school management commitee Anisur Rahman and upazila sanitary Inspector Partho Lahiri were present on the occasion.

Welding workshops posing health hazards in Magura

Mashroom growth of roadside welding workshops in the district and Upazila headquarters has been posing health hazards for long. There's at least 20 welding workshops in the district town. Of them, 12 were set up adjacent to footpath on either side of the main roads.

Besides, at least 15 workshop of 3 other Upazilas Shreepur, Shalikha, Mohammadpur were also set up on the same position. The workers at these workshops are engaged in welding work during the day time defying the factory rules.

People who pass through the roads are exposed to radiation and glowing iron particles that scater from these shops.

The sparking rays are extremely harmful to the eyes. Besides, iron particles cause injuries if people get struck with then, according to physicians.

Experience sharing meet held on community policing

Two dacoits killed in shootout with police

Two dacoits were killed in shootout with police at Harenja village in Hossainpur Upazila early on Tuesday. The dead were identified as Abdul Karim, 40 of Harenja village and Abdul Jabbar, 42, of Nandail Upazila of Mymensingh. Police conducted a drive at Pitolganj Ajmaine village in Hossainpur upazila in search of some kidnappers who abducted college student Atiqur Rahman Selim from Purankhan area in the town on September 6. When police raided a house of the village at about 3 AM the kidnappers opened fire towards the law enforcers in a bid to flee away, forcing them to fire back.

Karim and Jabbar received bullet during the exchange of fire and died on the spot Three police-ASI Nurul Huda, constable Nur Mohammad and Anisuzzaman were also injured during the shootout They were admited to Sadar Hospital.

Police recovered two shuter guns and three rounds of cartridges from the spot Police said Jabbar was wanted in 10 cases and Karim in four cases.

Shop owners' fined Tk 14.50 thousand in Chandpur

A mobile court conducted raids in different hat and bazaars of the district on Sunday and fined some shop owners for selling adulterated food at that time.

Magistrate M A Matin led the drive and fined eight shop owners to Taka 14.50 thousand in this respect

The court conducted drives in different fish and vegetables markets. Some unscrupulous shop owners have engaged in selling goods by using defective measurements, complained by the customers.

The drive, however, against the adulterators will continue, sources said.

Son kills mother in Barhata

A woman was brutally killed by her own son at village Mouati under Barhata upazila of Netrakona district on Sinday. Barhata police and local people said, Aiysha Akter Katun wife of Abdur Razzak of the village Mouati had a quarrel with her son Yeahia (22) centering the issue of family affairs at her house premises.

During the quarrel, Yeahia atacked his mother Aiyasha with an axe indiscriminately which led her to die on the spot Immediately after the killer son and caught him. Later he was handed over to the Barhata upazila police station. Meanwhile, Barhata police recovered the dead body of the victim and sent it to Netrakona Sadar hospital morgue for postmortem. A number case was recorded with Barhata police station in connection with the incident, police sources said.

Free Friday Clinic for the poor in Rangpur

500 disabled people get relief in Kurigram

KURIGRAM, Sept 27: Bangladesh Pratibandhi Kalyan Samity (BPKS) distributed relief materials among 500 disabled people of three unions under Fulbari upazila of the district on Monday. The relief goods included rice, flour, edible oil, salt, onion, sugar, candle, match box, oral saline, medicine, powdered milk and biscuits. BPKS officials and the elite of the town were present on the occasion, reports BSS.



One killed, in clash

NABABGANJ (Dinajpur), Sept 27: A woman was killed and her three daughters and a son were injured in a bloody clash between two groups at village Barobaria under Nababganj upazila in Dinajpur district on Monday. Police said two rival groups headed by Abdul Bari and Azizar Rahman locked into a bloody clash following an altercation over land dispute. Five persons including four women of Abdul Bari group were injured in the incident One of the injured Hasina Begum, 55, wife of Abdul Bari succumbed to her injuries at Nababganj Upazila Health Complex, reports BSS.

BAGERHAT, Sept 27: A mobile Court fined five grocery shop owners and a milk seller Taka 6,500 for adulteration of food in Morelganj Upazila of the district on Saturday. Led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Krishnakanta Biswas, a mobile court fined shop owners Kartik Chandra, Gopal Krishna Paul, Arun Kumar Roy, Shahidul Islam and Jagannath Talukder for selling adulterated food and Mojibur Rahman for selling milk mixed with water and formalin to the UNO's house, official sources said, reports BSS.



3 killed in road mishaps

LALMONIRHAT, Sept 27: A man was killed and 15 others were injured in a road accident at Gobindhaganj upazila headquarters of Gaibandah district Saturday night The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately. Police and witnesses said a Dhaka-bound bus from Burimari land port turned turtle on Dhaka-Lalmonirhat highway at about 11:30 PM, killing one passenger on the spot and injuring 15 others. The injured were admited to Bogra Mohammad Ali Medical College Hospital and Gonibdhaganj Health Complex. Another report from Panchagarh adds: A middle-aged man was killed when a stone-laden truck hit his bicycle on Panchagarh-Tentulia highway near District Police line on Saturday noon. The dead was identified as Wazir Ali, 50, of Amtala Shajipar village in Sadar upazila, reports UNB.



Valuables looted

SATKHIRA, Sept 27: Armed robbers looted cash and other valuables from two houses at Brahmarajpur village in Sadar upazila early Saturday. Police said the bandits numbering 8/10 stormed into the house of Modhu Sudan Shaha at about 1:00 AM and tied up his daughter Shilpi at gunpoint The robbers later looted cash money, four tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables from the house and decamped with the booty safely. Later, the bandits atacked the neighbouring house of Hafiz Mistri and took away cash, 1.5 tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables keeping the house-inmates hostage at gunpoint District police super Mirza Abdulla-hel-baki visited the spot in the morning. Two cases were filed with the police, reports UNB.

2 awarded death penalty for double murder

A court here on 20 September sentenced two people to death and nine others to life imprisonment in a double murder case.

The court also fined two condemned convicts. Tahazzel Hassain Nota (50) and Rabzal (53) of Titudhaha village Tk 2 lakh each in default to serve one year in prison.

According to the prosecution UP member Abu Musha of Chato Shalua village in Chuadanga Sadar upazila and his friend Shamsul Haque were killed at a nearby field in the village after they were abducted on January 9-1999. In another case, a woman was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here on charge on killing her new born baby two years ago.

According to the prosecution, Tahamina Khatun deserted wife of Sheikh Tahar of Charulia village in Damurhuda upazila killed her baby at night of 7/3/2005.

30 hurt in Magura road mishap

30 persons were grievously injured in a fatal road accident at Rumnagar area on Magura-Faridpur highway Saturday (Sep 22) evening.
