Flood situation in Kotalipara, Kasiani upazilas deteriorate further

The flood situation in Muksudpur upazila, Kasiani upazila and Kotalipara upazila has deteriorated further from September 15 as the floodwaters has increased in the river Kumar and river Ghagor.

The floodwaters has been floating 15 centimetre above on danger mark in the river Kumar near Shindhiaghate under Muksudpur Upazila and the floodwater is floating 10 above on danger mark in the river Ghagor near Ghagor Bazar under Kotalipara Upazila.

As a result, Jalirpar, Nanikhir Gohala and Kashalia unions under Muksudpur upazila are under water and about 1500 families are affected by the flood water in the rive Kumer and the Orakamdhi, Shingha Mohanagh Shajail and Aruakandhi villages.

The Ramsil, Kalabari and Radhaganj union under Kotalipara Upazila are floating by floodwaters.

The flood situation in the Gopalganj sadar and Tungipara upazila has turned serious and the floodwaters has increased and flowing 10 centimetre above the danger mark in the river Modhumati near Hariduspur under Gopalganj Sadar upazila from September 19, 20 and 21 and continuing till writing this report

As a result, the Moulavipara Islampara, Ghosher char, Kulupara. East Miapara, Bedgram and Khatra area of the Gopalganj Pourasava including Nizra, Satpar Shahapur, and Ulpur unions under Gopalganj sadar upazila is floating by floodwaters of the river Modhumati and 2000 people have been affected by the floodwaters of the river Modhumati newly.

A total of 64 unions in the five upazilas of the Gopalganj district were affected by current devastating flood and about 5 lakh people were affected. Only 26 shelter centers have been setup in the district and the flood hit people have taken shelter on the embankments, Highways and high lands.

The food and pure drinking water crisis has been prevailing in the areas.

The 25 houses including huge trees and croplands at Gobra village and Gobra Launch ghat area and 15 houses including huge trees and crops land at Fakra village under Gopalganj Sadar upazila were washed away by Modhumati river erosion recently.

Diarrhoea and eye disease has broken out in the flood hit areas of the Gopalganj district

The Civil Surgeon office said, 83 Medical teams are working day and night, six children died so far.

A total of 2413 houses were totally and 8334 houses damaged partially. 106 KM Kutch roads were damaged totally and 160 km Kutcha road partially. 60KM pucca road damaged partially.

The croplands of 12069 hectares damaged totally and croplands of 13,473 hectares were damaged partially, 500 fish ghers and ponds were affected-loss has been estimated at Taka two croses.

The government has distributed 27 lakh among the flood-hit people in the Kasiani upazila, 18 Metricton rice and cash taka 75,000 distributed among flood hit people of Muksudpur upazila, 9 metrict ton rice and cash taka 80,000 distributed among the flood-hit people in the Kotalipar upazila, 5 Metrict ton rice and cash Taka 20,000 has distributed among the flood-hit people of the Tungipara upazila.

2 metric ton of rice has been distributed among the flood-hit people in Muksudpur Pourashava 10 Metric ton rice has been distributed among the flood-hit people of the Gopalganj Pourashava and 1-1/2 metric ton (1500kg) rice has been distributed among the flood-hit people of Tungipara pourashava.

The Christian Commission for development in Bangladesh (CCDB) has distributed relief goods among the flood-hit 350 families in the four unions of Muksudpur Jamalpur, Nanikhir, Gohala and Kashalia has goten 8 kgs rice, 2kgs, pulse (Dal), 2 kg Potato one litre Soyabian (oil) and 1-2/ kg (500 gram) salt per family on September 18.

The CCDB has distributed relief goods among the flood-hit 250 families of three unions in the Kotalipara upazila are Kalabari, Ramsil and Radhaganj has gather 8 kgs rice, 2 kgs pulse (dal) 1-2 kg (500 gram) potato, one litre Soybin oil per family on September 20. River erosion has taken serious turn with recession of flood waters in Lalmonirhat

Kalmati under Sadar Upazila of the district is now under threat the erosion of the River Teesta to devour into the riverbed. Everyday at least five or seven houses of the area are being devoured into the riverbed, leaving the people with great concern.

On the other hand, the people of the area have been shifting their houses to a safer place. A total of 168 houses have already been eroded due to recent raging floods and erosion in Teesta River, making partial dame to another 92 houses.

At Mogolhat village under Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila erosion by the River Dharla devoured a big stretch of the Mogholat-Kulaghat Flood Protection embankment under Sadar Upazila of the district on Friday noon.

Local people said four shops situated on the bank of the River were washed away by the strong current of the river.The locals are apprehending that if urgent measures were not taken to stop the erosion about three hundred shops will be devoured by the river any time.

Meanwhile the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has distributed seeds of six varieties of vegetables among 220 flood-affected farmers in the district as part of the government's post-flood rehabilitation programme.

The government has allocated Taka 2.50 crore to carry out the post- flood rehabilitation programme in the district

Deputy Commissioner of Natore SM Ahshan Kabir distributed seeds among the farmers at a programme organised on the Sadar Upzila premises today.

Presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmud Shahin, the inaugural function was also addressed, by DAE Deputy Director AKM Shakhawat Hossain.

Opinion sharing meet on community policing held in Chitalmari

An opinion sharing meeting on Community Policing was held on 17th September in the Upazila auditorium building. Additional Police Super of Bagerhat Md. Miraj Uddin Ahmed delivered the speech as the chief guest and Chitalmari Upazila Nirbahee Officer Md. Alen Sayeed as special guest while Chitalmari Thana Officer-in-Charge Md Balur Hassain chaired in the meeting.

Among others, in the meeting, Ashok Kumar Baral UP chairman of Charbaniari, UP Chairman of Chitalmari Sadar Mr. Daudul Islam Lintu Khan, UP Chairman of Kalatala Sheikh Farid Ahmed spoke about the necessity of community policing and its materialising. A.S.I. Mr. Rabbani conducted the meeting.

Speakers in the meeting emphasised on the immediate constitution of community policing and the development of law and order situation of the Upazila. On demand, Additional Police Super also assured the meeting to take necessary steps against the fitnessless buses and its unexpert drivers plying buses on the road from Munsigonj to Patgati.

Smuggled goods seized, 2 held in Joypurhat

Rapid Action Batalion (RAB) arrested four persons and seized huge quantity of smuggled goods in different drives in the bordering areas in the district during the last 14 hours ending on Friday evening.

RAB source said they arrested Rabeya, 40, Lokman Ali, 24, Abdul Fakir, 48, and Harunur Rashid, 30, for carrying smuggled goods and drugs from India.

They also seized 19 liters lose and 55 botles of phensidyl, 3-kg hashish, 100 piece of Indian sharees and 906-kg scrape of cooper-made different appliances from their possession.

Cash money distributed among river erosion-hit people in Gaibandha

Akota, a local NGO, distributed cash money among the ultra poor and river erosion hit people of Sundarganj Upazila in the district on Thursday.

Sources said, Chars Livelihoods Programme (CLP) working in the district for the development of Socio-economic condition of Chars people, provided the fund under its rehabilitation activities.

UNO of Sundarganj Upazila Mohammad Barat Hossain Chowdhury inaugurated the distribution programme among the river erosion victims at the field office of Akota at Banglabazar under Horipur Union of the Upazila as chief guest

A total of 85 poor and river erosion hit families of Horipur and Kapasia Unions under Sundarganj Upazila were given Taka 2.55 lakh on the day. Each of the families got Taka 3000 for mitigating their sufferings due to erosion.

Earlier, the organisation also distributed Taka 2.64 lakh among 88 river erosion victims of the unions on Sept 04 under the same programme.

Meanwhile A day-long training programme on 'social development activities' for the women organised by HEED Bangladesh, a voluntary organisation, was held at its Sadar Upazila unit office on Sept 17.

James Koraia and Rafiel Tushar Chakrabarty of the organisation conducted the training sessions.

A total of 25 women from Ballamjhar and Boali Unions under Sadar Upazila took part in the training.

They were imparted training on the issues of necessities of organisation, leader, leadership quality, women rights, women empowerment

GPA-5 winners accorded reception in Rangpur

Authorities of Rangpur Medical College Public High School accorded a reception to the brilliant students of the school, who got GPA-5 in this year's SSC examinations on Thursday.

With acting headmaster of the school Motahara Banu in the chair, the reception was atended by head of the department of physiology of Rangpur Medical College (RMC) Prof Dr MA Bari as the chief guest while former principal of RMC Prof Dr M Abdul Mazid was present as special guest

Advisor of the institution Subodh Chandra Debnath has appreciated the efforts of the teachers, students and guardians for achieving the successes by the examinees in the last SSC examinations.

Teachers Habibur Rahman and Alhamra Khanom, GPA-5 holders and guardians also addressed the function.

The speakers congratulated the students who have obtained GPA-5 in the SSC examinations and asked them to be more atentive in pursue their higher studies.

Later, the chief guest distributed crests and certificates among all brilliant students. The reception was followed by a cultural function.

25 injured in Harinakunda clash

At least 25 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Parabaria village under Harinakunda upazila of the district on Thursday.

Police and locals said the clash ensued centering dispute on Silly village grouping.

About 200 people of both the groups used lethal weapons during the hour-long clash that left 25 injured, two of them seriously.

The injured were admited to Harinakunda Health Complex and Jhinaidah Sadar Hospital.

Gazipur, Sept 21: Eight children, who worked as camel jockeys in the United Arab Emirates, were given compensation in the district on Thursday. The children are Saiful Haque Jonny and Bahadur Ronny of Sreepur upazila, Badal, Jewel, Milon and Shahadat of Sadar upazila, and Sadir and Sakib of Kapasia upazila. Deputy Commissioner Syed Mizanur Rahman handed over cheques to them for their rehabilitation in the society, reports UNB.



Garment worker drowns

Savar, Sept 21: A garment worker drowned in a boat capsize at Banstali in the upazila on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Sharifa Begum, 20, daughter of Sadek Ali of Shariatpur district and a worker of Doyel group in Savar municipal area. Police said Sharifa along with some other garment workers were going to their workplace by a boat in the morning which caught by a strong current capsized, reports UNB.



One gets life

for violating girl

Magura, Sept 21: A tribunal here Thursday convicted a man and awarded him life term imprisonment for violating a girl after abduction. The convict was identified as Kamal Hossain, son of Rawshan Ali, of Bengaberail village in Sadar uapzila. According to prosecution, Kamal Hossain picked up Shilpi, 13, (not real name) from the village. He took the girl to Dhaka and raped her. Police later rescued the victim and arrested lecher Kamal. A case was filed. After examining the records and witnesses, District and Sessions Judge and Judge of the Special Tribunal M Kader Newaz handed down the verdict, reports UNB.

taking bribe

Pirojpur, Sept 21:Joint forces arrested an employee of district income tax office on Wednesday on charge of taking bribe from a man. Sources said the joint forces caught Nurul Haque, notice server of the office, from Bazaar Road area in the town at about 3pm while receiving Tk 5,000 as bribe from a man in the name of solving his income tax problem. He was later handed over Sadar thana police. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB



Valuables guted

Barisal, Sept 21: A devastating fire that broke out at Alif-Lam-Mim coton at Gobordhan in Gournadi upazila here on Thursday guted valuables worth Tk one lakh. Local people said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at about 1-45 pm and guted some valuable machines of the mill. On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the flame within half an hour with the help of local people. Two people were injured while extinguishing the flame, sources said, reports UNB.

Four nabbed

Brahmanbaria, Sept 22: District police arrested four persons of an organized gang who lifted sand illegally from the river Meghna on Friday. The law enforcers said that an organized gang has been lifting sand illegally since long from the government land at Meghna river in Kadarkhola area under the Nabinagar upazila. Police also seized MV Norium-2, a dredger, is being used to lift the sand from the river, report BSS.
