Minor girl kidnapped in Barisal, rescued in Kolkata

A minor girl, kidnapped in January this year from Ujirpur upazila in the district has been rescued in Kolkata recently.

Indian Red Cross Society in a leter informed the deputy director of Barisal Red Crescent Society about the incident last month. It said the girl was taken to the safe custody at Care Home at Berhampur in Murshidabad in West Bengal.

The girl, identified as Anjana Roy, 7, daughter of Shukhrnajan Roy was kidnapped when she came out of her school at Paisharhat under Ujirpur during tiffin break in January this year. Since the incident parents of Anjana did not have any idea about their daughter.

According to the leter of the Indian Red Crescent Society, West Bengal police arrested the kidnapper and rescued Anjana. It was also advised that father of the girl should contact appropriate authorities in Bangladesh through whom the girl could be sent back.

Meanwhile, Social Welfare Department will disburse about Taka 11.10 crore among 42,165 distressed people of ten upazilas in the district during the curresnt fiscal year.

Official sources said, of the total beneficiaries 36,195 people will get elderly allowances while 3,870 persons as disabled freedom fighters allowances and 2,100 person as handicapped allowances.

Elderly people will get Taka 220 as allowances each every month while disabled freedom fighters will receive Taka 500 each and handicapped person will get Taka 200 each every month.

The recipients include 4,144 in Barisal sadar, 5,316 in Bakerganj, 2,540 in Babuganj, 2,721 in Banaripara, 3,805 in Ujirpur, 3,093 in Gournadi, 2,394 in Agailjhara, 4,713 in Mehendiganj, 2,846 in Muladi, 2,558 in Hizla and 8,189 in City Corporation areas, the source added.
