Lalmonirhat AED starts distribution of saplings to flood-affected farmers

The Lalmonirhat Agriculture Extension Department started distribution sapling of aman paddy to flood hits farmers at different flood hits areas in the district at noon on Tuesday for planting aman paddy again at damaged fields. Only 2 thousand flood hits farmers in 30 thousands farmers geting sapling to plant again in their damaged land. But rest 28 thousand flood hits farmers facing frustration over planting aman paddy in again in their damaged lands resulting they thinking how they overcome coming Ashwin- Kartik monga.

The Lalmonirhat AED on Tuesday noon distributed sapling of HY Navijat variety aman paddy " Bina Shail" among the flood hits farmers at Barobari, Kulaghat and Rajpur union under Lalmonirhat sadar upazila. The Lalmonirhat DC Rafiqul Islam and the Army camp commander Major Mahfuzur Rahaman in their hand distributed saplings.

The AED Deputy Director Aftab Uddin Khan told that 2 thousand flood hits farmers of 20 flood hits unions of five upazila in Lalmonirhat would be received saplings for planting one bigha of damaged land, making them very smile face. The farmers will harvest this variety paddy in the same time in Bangla month Kartik, DD told.

Rajob Ali, a flood hits farmer of Bowalmari char under Lalmonirhat sadar upazila came for receiving saplings given by AED official at Kulaghat union parishad premise told ," My eight bighas land of standing aman paddy have been damage for two times by flood water. There is not alternative option to cultivate damaged land in again through making seedbed again due to shortage of time. And I have no financial support to purchase aman saplings to cultivate my damaged land in again. Lalmonirhat AED gives me only some saplings for planting on one bigha land, that is not sufficient for me."

Some flood hits farmers who came from Bowalmari char, Char Kulaghat village, char Bongram villages at Kulaghat union parishad premise for geting aman paddy saplings told this correspondent that they did not get saplings due to AED officials did not enlist their name, resulting they returned back to home in empty.

Of them Hares Ali, a flood hits farmer of Char Kulaghat village told," my four bighas land standing aman crops have been damaged by floodwater. I came here at Kulaghat UP office for geting sapling to plant again in my damaged lands, but my name was nor enlisted due to unknown reason."

The Kulaghat UP chairman Mohammad Shahjahan told this correspondent only 100 flood hits farmers of his union get sapling given by AED, whereas over one thousand flood hits farmers in his union lost their aman paddy by the recent flood. Litle distribution of sampling will not bring fruitful result in cultivating aman paddy in damaged lands, he added.

Sources of Lalmonirhat AED told nearable 30 thousand farmers become flood hits in the district and most of the aman paddy lands of them have been damaged by flood.
