Naogaon prominent freedom fighter and Awami Leaguer Jalal Hossain Choudhury (57) B.Sc. died after a prolonged illness at his residence Jogathsinghpur in Naogaon municipal area at night on August 28.

He had been suffering from paralysis since more than five years, lying on the bed completely.

He fought as one commander bravely of the freedom fighters in several batlefields during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

He started political career since his college life as an Awami Leaguer who elected twice as a commissioner of Naogaon pourashava.

Next day his first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at local historic Naowzoan Eidgah maidan and also later another at his local home locality, atended by govt, civil and police officials, politicians, journalists and people of all walks of life.

He was buried with state honour at his family graveyard.

He left behind his wife, one son, three daughters, grand children and a host of relatives to mourn his tragic death.



Zilla handball league tournament opens

Superintendent of police Sardar Nurul Ameen inaugurated the second hand-ball league tournament under auspices of Naogaon Zilla Krira Sangstha at local stadium in a simple ceremony on September 1.

On the opening day Naimuddin Srimiti Sangsad won by 3-0 goals against Dr. Manzur Hossain Smriti Sangsad.

General secretary of the zilla krira sangstha Zahidul Islam Dholu, convener of the league tournament Shibah Ul Alam and others spoke on the occasion.



Nazipur B. Chowdhury gold cup football tournament

Nazipur B. Chowdhury Gold Cup Football Tournament-2007 was inaugurated by local LDP leader Abdur Rouf Mannan as chief guest, held on Amaipukur football field at Nazimpur in Patnitola upazila in the district on September 1. in a colourful ceremony.

On the first day Nazimpur Ekota Club won by 6-0 goals against Asantha Janota Club.

2 persons arrested with ganja

Acting on a tip-off, Naogaon camp joint forces, Jaipurhat RAB and Badalgachi thana police on a raid recovered 105 K.G. ganja and also arrested two persons on August 26 at Dailatpur village of Bilashpur union parishad in Bangladeshi upazila in the district The value of the seized ganjs was about total four lakh twentyfive thousand taka. The arrested persons were Sohel and Ziar Ali. A case was registered with Badalgachi thana in this connection.



Jamaat-e-Islami distributes relief among flood-affected people

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami of Manda upazila branch distributed reliefs among the flood-affected people at Daluabari Jame mosque premises on September 1.

Local former M.P. Moulana Md. Nasir Uddin Zihadi distributed the relief as cash, about half lakh taka-among the flood-affected people, sanctioned by the Central Jamaat-e-Islami fund.

Naogaon district and local Jamaat-e-Islami party workers were then present on the occasion.

Prominent Headmaster dies

Proment retired head master Zahirul Islam of Shankarpur high school in Dhamoirhat upazila in the district died on treatment in Dhaka on 31 August He left behind his widow, 2 sons, 2 daughters and a host of relatives to mourn his tragic death.
