News Briefs RANGPUR, Sept 9: An orientation workshop for the development of Children and Women ,organised by District Information Office under the Mass Communication Project was held at Gangachara Upazila Parishad auditorium here on Wednesday. Chaired by Senior District Information Officer Mozaharul Islam, the workshop was atended by Gangachara UNO Mukesh Chandra Biswas as the chief guest A total of 50 participants including local community leaders, public representatives, teachers, Imams, women community leaders, socio-cultural and NGO activists and local elite and professionals of Laksmitari and Kolkond UPs took part, reports BSS. Training course on sub-stipend project held in Pirganj RANGPUR, Sept 9: A day-long training course on implementation of the ongoing sub-stipend project successfully at primary education level and building social awareness was held at the auditorium of Pirganj Upazila Parishad here on Wednesday. Organised by Upazila Primary Education Office, the occasion was chaired by Upazila Education Officer Swapan Kumar Roy Chowdhury and Pirganj UNO M. Rezanur Rahman was present as the chief guest All teachers of the primary schools and school managing commitee members and a number of guardians took part in the course that was organised with a view to run the project successfully in the upazila. Chief Trainer and Monitoring Officer of the project Abdur Razzaque, government officials Abbas Ali, Afzal Hossain and Harun- Or-Rashid addressed it, reports BSS. Swimming competition held in Chandpur CHANDPUR, Sept 9: The 10th District Swimming Competition organised by Chandpur District Sports Association was held at the newly built Chandpur swimming pool on Saturday last About 200 swimmers from different upazilas of the district took part in 14 events. Four national swimmers and seven swimmers from the army also participated in the competition. Chandpur Swimming Club became the champion in the competition while the Malek Swimming Club turned up as runner-up. Deputy Commissioner of Chandpur SM Monirul Islam distributed prizes among the winners, reports BSS. 20 botles phensidyl seized in Madaripur MADARIPUR, Sept 9: Police in a drive seized 20 botles of phensidyl from a passenger bus on Bhanga-Kaorakandi road under Shibchar upazila at around 9 PM on Wednesday. Police sources said acting on an information, police intercepted a passenger bus at the eastern side of the Haji Shariatullah Bridge and seized the phensidyl. None was arrested in this connection as the botles of phensidyl were found in an abandoned condition. A case was filed with Shibchar Police Station in this connection, reports BSS. Workshop on 'Women Children' held in Narail NARAIL, Sept 9: workshop on 'Role of Education and Mass Communication and Administration for the Development of Children and Women' under the communication strategy for children and women development project (3rd phase) was held here on Wednesday. Organised by the District Information Office, the workshop was presided over by communication officer Shibpada Mondal while Deputy Commissioner M Abdul Qaiyum Sarder was present as main speaker. Civil Surgeon Dr Rezwanul Haq underscored the need for protecting health of mother and child as it is the responsibility of the society to take proper care of them. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Homaira Begum also spoke on the occasion, reports BSS.
