Distribution of Aman seedlings starts in Rajshahi

Distribution of seedlings of transplanted aman among the small and marginal farmers in the flood- affected areas of the district has began on Wednesday.

A function was organised on the occasion on the Charghat Upazila Complex premises where seedlings were distributed among 110 farmers. With this seedlings they will be able to bring about 110 acres of land under aman cultivation.

Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Rabindra Kumar Majumder, representative of Bangladesh Army Major Didar-e-Zabid, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sitara Begum and other officials concerned were present on the occasion.

Under the post-flood agriculture rehabilitation programme, around 500 affected farmers will provided with aman seedlings for bringing about 300 acres of land under cultivation in six upazilas of the district

The DAE has also encouraged the farmers for growing aman seedlings on about 1,000 acres of land which will enable them to bring 20,000 land under transplanted aman cultivation.

Besides, another 11,700 farmers would be provided with necessary seeds, fertiliser and other agricultural inputs for cultivating boro, wheat, hybrid maize, pulses, mustard and vegetables on 3,900 acres of land.

The district and upazila level government officials and army officials have been monitoring the field level agriculture rehabilitation programme for its successful implementation.

Deputy Director of DAE Rabindra Kumar Majumder told BSS that the farmers are being given need-based ideas for growing seedlings by using modern methods so that they could minimize their loss caused by flood.

To make the vegetable cultivation in the forthcoming winter season a success, a massive programme has already been taken, Majumder said adding seeds and other necessary inputs along with technical know-how would be extended to the farmers.

Besides, Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) has been implementing a special agriculture credit programme to rehabilitate the flood-affected farmers with a view to increase credit flow towards agriculture sector along with revitalizing the rural economy.
