54 alleged criminals held

Police, in separate anticrime drives, arrested 29 alleged criminals, including six drug- peddlers, from different areas in the city and nine thanas of the district in last 24 hours ending on Friday.

Of them, 15 persons, including the six drug-traders, were rounded up from different areas in the metropolis and 14 others from nine upazilas of the district

The six drug-traders, including a woman, identified as Chandu, 40, Asdar, 42, Osman, 32, Abdul, 37, Rabiul, 29, and Fahima, 40, were captured with 250 grams of heroin and 20 botles of phensidyl from Greater Road and Boshpara areas under Boalia Thana in the city. During the same time, traffic police lodged 16 cases under motor vehicles ordinance and seized a motorbike without registration and valid documents during raids against the faulty motor vehicles.

BSS from Rangpur says: Police arrested a total of 15 persons from different areas of the district during the past 24 hours till 12 noon on Thursday, police sources said.

The arrested persons included absconding warrantees, drug peddlers, cow-lifters, terrorists, thieves, accused persons in women and children repression cases, criminals and anti-social elements, the sources said.

Of them, Kotwali police arrested five persons, Gangachara two, Badarganj one, Pirganj three, Kawnia two and DB police arrested two suspected criminals during the drives.

Police also recovered good quantities of phensidyl, ganja, wine, stolen goods and lethal weapons during the raids.

The arrested persons were later sent to jail hajat when police produced them before different Rangpur courts today, the sources said.

Another report from Rangamati says: Police arrested five youths on suspicion from different parts of the district town on Tuesday night

The arrested were identified as Rupam Barua, 18, son of Sadhan Barua, Swandip Mallik, 20, son of Binod Mallik, Jhuntu Chowdhuyry, 20, son of Shatya Chowdhury, Mohammad Ismail, 20, son of Ali Akbar and Ibrahim Khalil, 40 son of Azizul Islam.

They were arrested from police line, Reserve Bazar and Hospital areas of the town as there movement was suspicious, police said.

UNB from Rangamati reports: The joint forces in separate raids arrested two Jubo Dal and LDP leaders in the district town on Wednesday night They were identified as LDP (B Chowdhury) district convenor and secretary of Chitagong Hill Tracts Sports Association Nirmal Barua Milon and Khagrachhari district Jubo Dal president Abdus Salam. Sources said Salam was arrested from his sister's house in the town and Milon was held from Sadar Hospital road area on various charges.

BSS from Lalmonirhat adds: Detective Branch (DB) of Lalmonirhat Police arrested listed top terrorist of the district Atikur Rahman Prince, 30 from Lalmonirhat Pourashava area on Wednesday night, police sources said.

The sources said acting on secret information, a special police squad led Officer-in-Charge of Lalmonirhat DB police Moynul Islam conducted a sudden raid and arrested Prince, son of Moslem Uddin of Ram Krishna Mission Mour area in Lalmonirhat town.

DB police also seized two botles contraband phensidyl from his possession during the raid.

A total of nine criminal cases in connection with possessing illegal arms, thefts, terrorist atacks, clashes, women and children repression and drug are pending against the arrested top terrorist with different police stations in Lalmonirhat

Later, DB police handed over Prince to Lalmonirhat Sadar Thana Police in the same night, the sources said.
