Govt starts selling rice at Tk 19 a kg from today

The countrywide Open Market Sale (OMS) of rice begins today (Monday) to keep price of the essentials within the reach of common people during the month of Ramadan.

Food Ministry sources said 1.18 lakh metric tones of rice would be sold in 64 districts of the country under the OMS programme. The programme will run until October 11.

Each kg of rice would be sold at Tk 19 while the dealers would buy rice from the Government at Tk 18 a kg.

Rice would be sold in open market every alternate day through 15,400 dealers and 500 BDR shops in the town areas. A family can buy a maximum of three kg rice at a time, the sources said.
