Janmashtami elebrated

Janmashtami, one of the religious festivals of the Hindu community marking the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna was observed here on Tuesday with jubilation and enthusiasm braving drizzles in the morning.

The Narayanganj district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad chalked out programmes which include rally, peace procession, distribution of sweets, kirton, recitation from Holy Geeta, Krishna Puja, discussion meeting and cultural show.

A huge colourful rally participated by over twenty thousand Hindu devotees including men, Women and children atired in their best was brought out from Deobhog Lakhinarayan Akhra at D.I.T. market at 9-30 AM.

Different religious organisations including International Society for Krishna consciousness (ISKon) Loknath Brammachari Ashram, Ramthakur Sheba Sangha, Sadhu Nagmahashya and Lob Chandra Asram and representatives from different temples in the district participated in the rally.

The rally was atended among others by Deputy Commissioner Faizul Kabir, Police Super Sibgatullah, President of Narayanganj Unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad Dilip Saha, Secretary Basudev Chakroborti, Vice President Probir Saha and Major Maksud of joint forces, local Hindu leaders Gopinath Das, Nironjan Saha, and Ranjit Saha .

Addressing the rally, Faizul Kabir said Bangladesh is a land of communal harmony where people of different faiths including Hindus, Christians and Buddhists are living in peace performing their religious duties with full freedom.

The rally was followed by a procession which after parading the thorough fares of D.I.T. market, Netaiganj, Tanbazar, S.M. Maleh Road, Sirajuddowla Road, Mirjumla Road, Donchamber, Chashara, Ukilpara terminated at Deobhog Lakhi Narayan Akhra.
