16 killed, 44 injured in separate incidents

Bodies of three people, went missing since on Sunday evening after they jumped in Shibsha river from a launch, were recovered on Monday night
Two of the dead were identified as Rafiq Gazi, 22, of Bagali village of Koira Upazila and Nuru Sarder,50, of Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira district
Police recovered the bodies after a hectic search till 11 PM on Monday. Local sources said the three among some panicked passengers of the Khulna-bound "Jorshi-7" jumped in the river as the vessel leaned due to strong current on Sunday evening and could not swim ashore. However, the launch did not sink.
Police is still searching for more bodies.
UNB from Comilla says: Three people, including directors of two banks, were killed and three others injured in a head on collision between a jeep and a covered-van at Nankara in Chouddagram Upazila on Tuesday morning.
Local source said the Chitagong-bound covered-van collided with the relief-goods laden jeep of Anjuman-e-Mofidul Islam at about 10AM, killing three on the spot
The deceased were identified as Rotarians Shahidul Islam Kaderi, Director of Bangladesh Krishi Bank, and Salam Harun, Director of Standard Bank, and jeep driver Zahir.
Injured Engineer Manwar Ahmed, former General Secretary of Chitagong Rotary Club, Assistant Director of Anjuman-e-Mofidul Islam Selim Naser Sarker, and its electrician Asgar Khan were admited to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
The tragedy struck down the joint team of Chitagong Rotary Club and Anjuman-e-Mofidul Islam of Chitagong when they were going to Haimchar Upazila in Chandpur district to distribute relief goods among the flood victims.
UNB from Faridpur says: Two people were killed and 15 others injured in separate road accidents in Bhanga Upazila on Faridpur-Barisal Highway on Monday.
Bhanga Municipality and Kaoidubi area in the upazila In the first accident in Bhanga Municipal area, a septuagenarian woman was killed and 15 others injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch in the afternoon.
Local sources said a Barguna-bound bus from Dhaka fell into the ditch at about 1 PM while trying to give side to a motorcycle, killing Maya Laxmi Majumder, 70, and injuring 15 others. Of the injured, Prabir Majumder, 47, Amita Majumder, 40, and Anita Majumder, 10, of Patharghata upazila in Barguna district were admited to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition. They all are the relatives of deceased Maya Laxmi Majumder.
In another accident, a minor boy was crushed under the wheels of a bus at Koidubi area in the evening.
Witnesses said the speeding bus ran over the unidentified boy, aged around 10, at about 6 PM when he was crossing the road. Separate cases were filed with Bhanga thana.
UNB from Barisal adds: A girl was crushed under wheels of a bus at Natunhut in Babuganj Upazila on Barisal-Dhaka highway Monday morning. Witnesses said a Dhaka bound bus ran over Ria Moni, 11, while she was crossing the road on her way to maternal grand mother's house, killing her on the spot
The bus driver managed to flee away.
The body of the victim was handed over to her family after autopsy at Barisal SBMCH on Monday afternoon.
BSS from Rangpur adds: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident at Dharmodash point in front of the Regional Research Centre of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway under Kotwali thana here recently. They said a Rangpur-bound coach of Agomoni Paribahan from Dhaka hit a motorcycle from behind at 2:10 pm at the point, injuring seriously its rider Idris Ali, 55, son of Abdul Gaffar of village Azizollah under Kotwali thana.
Kotwali police rushed to the spot and sent the injured person to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he died at 3:45 pm.
A case was filed with Kotwali police in this connection, the sources said.
BSS from Chuadanga says: Jibonnagar police as part of its social responsibility intervened in a wedding function at Baiddyanathpur village under the Jibonnagar Upazila and stopped an incident of child marriage which was scheduled to be held on Friday last
Police said the marriage of Esnahar Begum, 13, daughter of Enamul Haque of Baiddyanathpur and a student of class seven of Hashada Girls High School was fixed with another minor boy Nurruzzaman, 15, son of Nuhu Biswas of Kushadanga village under the same upazila was arranged and all preparations were ready to complete the occasion.
Being informed, officer-in-charge of Hashada camp, a team of police rushed to the spot stopped the marriage of the two minors.
UNB from Comilla says: A man was killed and four people were injured when a truck rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Ratanpur in Dakkhin Sadar Upazila on Wednesday morning. Police said the truck hit the three-wheeler at about 11 AM killing auto-rickshaw passenger Rajesh Chandra Pal, 35, and injuring four others.
The injured were admited to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
UNB from Bhairab (Kishoreganj) reports: A tea stall owner was stabbed to death allegedly by a fruit trader in Bhairab Bus Stand area on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Yasin Mia, 38, of Jagannathpur area of Bhairab municiplality.
Police and witnesses said fruit trader Kala Mia of the area locked in an altercation with Yasin in the morning over a previous enmity. At one stage Kala Mia entered the tea stall of Yasin with a knife and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. The victim succumbed to his injuries on way to Dhaka for treatment On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Kala Mia along with the knife.
A case was filed.
UNB from Sirajganj reports: At least 15 people were injured, six seriously, in a clash over land dispute at Moradaha village in Ullapara Upazila on Tuesday.
Police said there had a longstanding dispute between Belal Mandal and Azizul of the village over the demarcation of boundary lines of their respective dwelling houses.
Local people said both Belal and Azizul locked in an altercation over the issue and at one stage supporters of Azizul atacked on the house of Belal at about 5pm, leaving 15 people injured. The atackers allegedly damaged a dwelling house of Belal and looted Tk 30,000 in cash. The six seriously injured were admited to Sadar Hospital.
A case was filed with the police in this connection.
UNB from Thakurgaon says : A schoolgirl was killed in a tragic road accident in front of Balaka Cinema Hall in the district town on Tuesday morning.
The dead was identified as Pingki, 13, only daughter of Abdul Jabbar, also a student of class VI of Thakurgaon Government Girls High School. Witnesses said the accident occurred at about 10 AM when a speeding truck rammed the rickshaw carrying Pinkgi and her two schoolmates, killing her on the spot However, the two other girls and the rickshaw-puller miraculously escaped unhurt After the accident the truck fled way the scene hurriedly. Another report from Madaripur adds: A minor boy was crushed under the wheels of a bus on Amgram bridge in Rajoir Upazila on Tuesday at about 11 AM.
The dead was identified as Ujjal, 8, son of Fajal Bepari of Farankandi area of Amgram village in the Upazila.
BSS from Rajbari adds: Two persons were killed and seven others injured in an accident at Bashantapur village in Sadar Upazila on Dhaka-Khulna highway today.
The accident took place when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus 'Druti Paribahan' coming from Barisal hit a parked truck from behind this morning.
Police said bus driver Jahangir Hossain, 40, and his helper Mizan, 25, died on the spot
They said injured seven passengers of the bus were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Sadar Hospital for autopsy. A case was filed.
Eve-teasing on alarming rise in Nalchity

Eve-teasing in the municipal town, Nalchity is increasing at an alarming rate. The victim of the eveteasers are mostly school and college going girl students. There is no street in the town where the girl students can move safe and sound, guardians alleged. Some guardians alleged they have been compelled to send their daughters to other towns for education or to give in marriage at an early age as Nalchity town is not safe town for smooth movement
Most of the eve-teasers wait standing at BIP road, Hospital morh, Mallickpur bridge, steamerghat, Shabujbag area, Bandar primary road, High School road, College road and several places of the town at around 9 AM and at around 4 PM when the girl students go to their respective educational institutions and come back home from there.
The eveteasers pelt different types of slang language and often pull the scaf of the girls but they have to keep quiet and silently take all the insults inflicted upon them, guardians also alleged.
The eveteasers are so disobedient and reckless that they don't abstain from teasing the girls accompanied by their parents. even newly married couples are often teased by them, the sufferers alleged.
Most of the guardians have to remain anxious for their beloved daughters, guardians exclaimed. Masud Khan, Chairman, Nalchity Pourashava acknowledging the facts said that necessary measures would be taken against the eve teasers soon. Separate drives would be introduced including local unit commissioners and guardians to ensure safe and smooth movement for the girl students, he added.
Journalist held on charge of extortion in Bagerhat

A local journalist was arrested from his rail road office in the district town Monday on charge of extortion. Police said they arrested Molla Abdur Rob, working with daily Khabar Patra and Abash, after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of Kalia village in Sadar upazila Sunday filed an extortion case against four people, including Rob.
In his complaint the plaintiff alleged that the accused, led by Rob, demanded Tk 25,000 as toll from him and he was forced to pay Tk 10,000 in two installments under threat by the accused. Earlier on August 24, members of joint forces arrested Sheikh Sawkat Ali Shimul, district correspondent of daily Bhorer Kagaj, while he was taking Tk 10,000 as toll.
Janmashtami elebrated

Janmashtami, one of the religious festivals of the Hindu community marking the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna was observed here on Tuesday with jubilation and enthusiasm braving drizzles in the morning.
The Narayanganj district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad chalked out programmes which include rally, peace procession, distribution of sweets, kirton, recitation from Holy Geeta, Krishna Puja, discussion meeting and cultural show.
A huge colourful rally participated by over twenty thousand Hindu devotees including men, Women and children atired in their best was brought out from Deobhog Lakhinarayan Akhra at D.I.T. market at 9-30 AM.
Different religious organisations including International Society for Krishna consciousness (ISKon) Loknath Brammachari Ashram, Ramthakur Sheba Sangha, Sadhu Nagmahashya and Lob Chandra Asram and representatives from different temples in the district participated in the rally.
The rally was atended among others by Deputy Commissioner Faizul Kabir, Police Super Sibgatullah, President of Narayanganj Unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad Dilip Saha, Secretary Basudev Chakroborti, Vice President Probir Saha and Major Maksud of joint forces, local Hindu leaders Gopinath Das, Nironjan Saha, and Ranjit Saha .
Addressing the rally, Faizul Kabir said Bangladesh is a land of communal harmony where people of different faiths including Hindus, Christians and Buddhists are living in peace performing their religious duties with full freedom.
The rally was followed by a procession which after parading the thorough fares of D.I.T. market, Netaiganj, Tanbazar, S.M. Maleh Road, Sirajuddowla Road, Mirjumla Road, Donchamber, Chashara, Ukilpara terminated at Deobhog Lakhi Narayan Akhra.

Robbery commited in house in B'baria
BRAHMANBARIA, Sept 6: Armed robbers looted cash and other valuables from a house at Gokarna Ghat area in the district town early Monday. Police said the robbers, numbering 7/8, stormed into the house of Siddik Khalifa at about 2am and tied up the house inmates at gunpoint The bandits looted Tk 1 lakh in cash, 10/12 tolas of gold ornament, mobile-phone sets and other valuables from the house and then escaped with the booty without any resistance. A case was filed with local thana, reports UNB.
RAB seized two firearms in Moulvibazar
MOULVIBAZAR, Sept 6: Members of Rapid Action Batalion (RAB) recovered two firearms from a pond at Kharpara village of Fakirtula union under Rajnagar upazila of the district on Monday afternoon. RAB sources said acting on a tip-off, members of the elite force from Srimongal camp rushed to Kharpara village on Maonday afternoon and conducted a search in the pond of one Fazlul Haque Niru and recovered two firearms from the pond. The firearms include, a sophisticated revolver and a Myanmar made single barrel gun. The firearms were found wrapped with polythene and atached to a bamboo pole under the water, RAB sources said. RAB people are working to find out the owner of the firearms, reports BSS.
Results of 32 SSC examinees of Barisal Board changed
BARISAL, Sept 6: This year results of 32 SSC examinees of Barisal Board have been changed after reexaminations and scrutiny. Barisal Board Sources said 1365 SSC examinees of 2007 applied for reexamination and scrutiny by giving Tk. 100 per head per paper as fees. Among them results of 11 failed examinees have been changed to pass and other 21 examinees improved their grades in results with 6 examinees geting GPA-5. Shah Muhammad Alamgir, controller of examination of Barisal Board, said due to this numbers of GPA-5 holders in SSC examination of 2007 under this Board has been increased from 652 to 658 and total percentages also changed from 50.66 to 50.69. Actions would be taken against concerned examiners, head examiners, scrutinisers and others in this connection for their negligence in duty, he added.
Janmastami observed colourfully in Barisal
BARISAL, Sept 6: Janmastami, the celebration of the birthday of Lord Krishna and one of the biggest religious festivals of the Hindus, observed colorfully in Barisal city on Tuesday. Different Hindu religious organisations have arranged elaborate programmes including colourfull rally and peace processions, prayers of Krishna, puja, recitation and discussion from Geeta, jagna, kirtan, religious discussions, drama. Khan Sayeed Hassan, commissioner of Barisal metropolitan police, as chief guest inaugurated a 45 days long programme on this occasion. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Advocate Shanti Ranjan Chakroborti and among others addressed by Shyamol Acharajiya, Santosh Mukharjee, Manik Mukharjee Kudu, Bijoy Krisna Dey, Prof. Sarbomitro Dasodhikari, and Sree Bijitananda Maharaj.
