Private varsities, schools reopen

Private universities, schools and other educational institutions across the country opened yesterday. Earlier, the Government in a handout said the private universities were not under the purview of the closure notification of the government

Besides, the authorities of graduate (Hons) and postgraduate colleges outside the divisional cities also kept their institutions open.

Students came to their institutions and atended their classes yesterday.

The government closed all public universities in the country and the government and non-government colleges in the divisional cities two days after a worst rioting, which took place centring a trifle mater between an army personnel and a student at the playground of Dhaka University on August 20.

Then the Government yesterday clarified its earlier order relating to closure of all public and private colleges in divisional headquarters sine die saying, the private universities remain exempted from the government closure notice.

The government official handout also said that the authorities of the colleges outside the divisional headquarters would take their own decisions on their closure or opening as per the situation.

However, students in the private universities were a non-participant in the agitation. Besides, there was no curfew when the classes of these institutions were in progress.
