The Industry Adviser, Geeti Ara Safiya, on Sunday asked Bangladesh Small and Cotage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) to organise a fair of Jamdani sarees, on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

A review meeting of the ministry chaired by her also discussed the ways and means to solve the problems of Jamdani weavers to preserve and promote the the traditional Jamdani.

The adviser asked the BSCIC officials to provide cotage and small entrepreneurs of Chitagong Hill Tracts with institutional facilities so that they market their products.

Bangladesh Industrial Technological Assistance Center (BITAC) informed the meeting about its initiative to take up vocational training programmes for improving skills of the unemployed and less educated in the light of poverty reduction strategy paper (PRSP).

Two projects in the sector, for removing unemployment of the poorer section, are awaiting approval, the BITAC officials said.
