RAJBARI, Aug 22: Two persons were sentenced to five- years rigorous imprisonment each and three others to four years by a court here for injuring a person by cuting veins of his legs ten years ago. Additional district magistrate of Rajbari Mohammad Nurul Alam pronounced the verdict in a crowded courtroom on Monday. The convicts were identified as Akkas Ali, leader of the outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party, his accomplices Abdul Quader Sheikh, Abdur Rahman Gadu, Abu Zafar and Rezaul Karim. Akkas and Quader, who were sentenced to five-years imprisonment also fined Taka 3,000 each in default to suffer fifteen more days in prison. The prosecution story in brief is that Akkas and his accomplices atacked Hashem Mondol, a social worker of Khanganj village under Sadar Upazila and cut veins of his legs. A case was filed against Akkas and his accomplices in this connection, reports BSS.
