Eleven unions and one municipality areas under Monohardi Upazila in the district have achieved hundred percent success in birth registration by August 12 last while the target of achieving countrywide total birth registration by 2008.

Official sources said a total of 2,65,762 male and female including children of 11 unions and one municipality areas under Monohardi Upazila were registered with their date of births under the supervision of Upazila administration.

Deputy Commissioner of the district Zillur Rahamn informed a meeting held at Monohardi Upazila Parishad auditorium on Sunday.

Presided over by Shahidul Islam, Upazila Nibrahi Officer of Monohardi, the meeting was addressed, by officials of district and upazila administrations. The Deputy Commissioner expressed his satisfaction that Monohardi is the first upazila in the country that achieved total birth registration much ahead of the national target

He thanked government officials, elected representatives, teachers and others for making people aware about the necessity of birth registration.

He hoped that the rest of the upazilas of the district will achieve 100 percent birth registration within December 2007.
