Drive against corruption

General Ershad came in power to 1982 with the promise to wipe out corruption, but facts remain that he was convicted for his corruption and became political debauch and ultimately he was forced to resign. Now there are four branches of Jatio Party. His position is that he joins in the BNP-led Alliance in the morning and in the evening he says he will join AL-led 14 party. Both BNP and Awami League claim Ershad as autocract and both the parties tried their best to take him in their alliances. Many things happened by this time and election could not be held and the state of emergency was declared by the President of the country under the force of circumstances.

Many of our politicians are impatient and they want early election. Political activities are suspended. The peculiarity of this Government is that they are catching big wigs of politics, business and administration. Even in Pakistani period no government dared to catch cuch big fishes. Politics, in fact the politicians, was going on free style. Everyone earned money by using and misusing his position. An independent Anti-Corruption Commission was created to catch corrupt people. It totally failed during the past regime. This time Anti-Corruption Commission has become very much vigilant. They are meaning business.

We congratulate the Government specially the Anti-Corruption Commission for its job. We the general masses were quite in the dark. We could not say what was happening in the name of politics, business and services. This time we got an opportunity to know our corrupt people. We do not know many things yet. To-day our big wigs are confessing their guilt before the interrogation cell. In the name of politics what they did, we could not imagine. We are getting new information day by day. Corrupt people of all level should be arrested without showing any sympathy whoever he or she may be.

Although the present Government is not elected, expectation of the people is very much from them. We want they will remain upright under any circumstances. We know political parties receive donation to run their parties, but at the present moment extortion is done in the name of donation. Whether their taking money is extortion or donation, it will be decided by the investigation authority in the relevant cases.

We want the present Government will do its main function i.e. free and fair election in due time as promised; but we want those who looted public money in the name of politics, business and services, must be caught and their cases must be tried as early as possible and their ill gotten money and wealth are to be confiscated so that nobody dares to do so in future.
