People's accolade for armed forces

The latest revelations of corruption by people who used to be at the corridors of power have brought to the fore the ugly side of the lifestyle of political leaders on whom the people so confidently used to repose their trust to secure the greater interests of the nation. The extent to which our political leaders appear to have indulged in corruption has simply stunned them.

It's not that the people knew nothing about the corrupt practices of a section of political leaders and under their protection of a section of government officials and even of a section of business people. But they had no way of protesting the abuse of power and indulgence in corruption by the powerful. It now unfolds that some politicians viewed ascendancy to power as a passport for making illegal money and probably this explains why neither of the big political parties ever accepted defeat in election in good grace during the last 16 years.

The people are happy that the cases of corruption are now being brought before their attention. And they are thankful to the armed forces for their intervention to expose corrupt elements. The people simply cannot believe that a section of the leaders they used to trust actually used to hide their real faces. It was difficult for them to make them accountable because corrupt people had behind the scene understanding and in this sphere difference in political affiliations mattered very little.

Do we live in this planet earth or elsewhere that people holding the highest government positions to conserve the free resources of the country would actually deplete those for money? Is it believable that people on jobs to secure protection of the environment would actually help polluters just for money, and even after successful official inquiries those proven guilty would be spared and even departmental cases against them would be dropped?

Although the price hike of essentials is causing some sufferings, the people, on the whole, are happy that the patriotic armed forces acted as a last resort to stop further degradation of the morals of politics. "Something like this was necessary," they say. The armed forces deserve the accolade they are receiving from the masses.
