Prices of hilsha fish, onion, pulse rise

The prices of hilsha fish, onion, ginger and pulse marked sharp rise in the city markets last week, while prices of vegetables have come down by Tk 3 to 4 in some city markets.

Meanwhile, prices of other essential commodities remained static. Despite the government decision to stop exporting hilsha fish, prices of hilsha fish did not come down. Hilsha fish sold at Tk 400 to Tk 450 per kg in the city markets last week. Hilsha fish (big size) was sold for more than Tk 500 per piece in the retail markets.

In the city markets, polao rice sold between Tk 47 and Tk 48 in the retail markets, while in wholesale markets, it sold at Tk 45. In the city's wholesale markets, better quality 'najir shail' rice sold at Tk 28 per kg last week, while better quality 'miniket' was sold at Tk 23 to Tk 26 per kg. 'Kataribhog' rice was sold at Tk 34 to Tk 36 per kg in the wholesale markets last week.

Meanwhile, the price of green chilli was relatively high in the retail markets. The price of the item is ranged between Tk 60 and Tk 80 in the city's retail markets last week. Prices of vegetables ranged between Tk 20 and Tk 25 in the city markets. The prices of brinjal of better quality rose in the wholesale market and it was sold at Tk 18 to Tk 22 per kg last week. In the retail markets, the price for the same was Tk 35 to Tk 40 per kg. The prices of local onion in the wholesale markets was Tk 20 per kg last week, while it ranged between Tk 24 and Tk 26 per kg in the retail markets.

The price of ginger in the both wholesale and retail markets remained higher. It ranged between Tk 45 and Tk 55 per kg last week.

The price of potato remained at the previous higher level and the item was sold at Tk 20 in the wholesale markets and between Tk 20 and Tk 22 per kg in the retail markets. In the wholesale markets, the price of papaya was Tk 12 to Tk 14 per kg, while in the retail markets, it ranged between Tk 14 and Tk 16 per kg last week.

The price of cucumber rose in the wholesale market and the item was sold at Tk 20 to Tk 22 per kg last week. In the retail markets, the price for the same was Tk 24 to 25 per kg.

Meanwhile, in the city markets, prices of gram including broken marked sharp rice. In the retail markets, the price of 'mashur' (imported) was Tk 65 per kg, while 'mashur' (local) was sold at more than Tk 70 per kg, 'mug' pulse at Tk 65 per kg and 'khesari' at Tk 30 per kg. In the retail markets, sugar was sold at Tk 32 per kg last week.

Meanwhile, the better quality loose soyabean oil was sold at Tk 75 per kg last week, while the medium quality one for Tk 68 to Tk 70 per kg. Palm oil was sold at Tk 55 per kg and mustard oil at Tk 120 per kg last week

The medium size of chicken was sold at Tk 140 last week, while prices of egg (chicken) was sold at Tk 54 per dozen in the city markets.

Baby food like milk powder was sold at Tk 75 to Tk 80 per 100 gm as this was Tk 70 to Tk 75 per 100 gm last week.
