A staff of a residential hotel was shot and wounded by miscreants at Chowdhurypara in Malibagh area under Ramna thana Friday.

Meanwhile, robbers looted cell phones and other valuables worth about Tk 7 lakh from a phone shop at Raj Laxmi Shopping Complex in the city's Uttara area early Friday.

The shop owners of Raj Laxmi Shopping Complex staged demonstration protesting against the incident.

Police said, two miscreants swooped on Meraj Residential Hotel at about 9:30 am and looked for its manager for collecting toll money demanded earlier.

As the manager was absent, the miscreants came out from the hotel and opened fire on Khalilur Rahman, 30, a staff of the hotel, while he was in front of it, leaving him wounded.

Khalilur, hailed from Baumohal village in Nalchhiti upazila under Jhalakathi district, was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullet wounds in his leg.

Besides, the robbers stormed Ekushey Telecom located on the 4th floor of the Complex at dead of night and looted cell phone sets and other valuables. The gang fled the scene with the booty without any hindrance.

Shop owners of the market shuttered their shops in protest against the robbery and demanded the immediate arrest of the robbers.

The shop owners alleged that the incident of robberies is on rise in the area.
