No religion supports corruption

Corruption has taken, sadly, in our country, institutional shape and has reached deep into the society for two reasons. First, there was little application of the existing law, and secondly, the corruptors feared little of the punishment of God in the hereafter. When it is said that God forgives all sins if the wrongdoers become remorseful and swear not to repeat. But it has been observed in most of the cases that the corruptors hardly refrain from repeating sins when they submit to greed. And as for the law of the land, persons responsible to bring the culprits to justice also do not care for the punishment of Allah in the Hereafter and therefore shirk their duty. It means men devoid of ethics and morality can commit any sort of crime. So, to ameliorate ethics and morality, mosques can play a commendable role. Realising this truth, the ACC has sought the cooperation of the country's mosques to wipe out corruption from the society.

We think that the decision is wise one and the imams of the mosques should respond positively. Maulana Obaidul Haque, Khatib of the Baitul Mokarram National Mosque, may also send message to all the imams of the country in this regard.

There are verses in the Quran on corruption, some of which are quoted hereunder:

"Eat and drink of the provision of Allah and act not corruptly, making mischief in the land,"-2/60.

"Obey not the command of the prodigal,"-26/151

"Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not,"-26/152

"Wrong not men of their kinds, making mischief in the land,"-26/183

"The punishment for those who wage war against (the ordinance) of Allah and His Apostle and spread corruption in the land is only this, that they should be killed or crucified or their hands and feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be expelled from the land,"-5/33. Verse No. 2/60 enjoins men of refraining from devouring the rights of other people and to ensure their rights to survive.
