The probe body formed to investigate the admission of fake students in the social work department of Rajshahi University (RU) placed its report at the syndicate meeting here on Thursday.

Professor Khalequzzaman of the RU’s Zoology department, the convenor of 6-member probe committee, submitted the report at the syndicate meeting, recommending to cancel the admission of 8 fake students.

He also recommended to expel the field assistant of social work department Masud Rana on charges of his connivance with the admission forgery.

Official sources said the committee had found that Masud Rana took Taka 8 lakh from 8 students as bribes for admitting them in the social work department by using the forged academic documents in the session 2007-08.

While contacted, Prof. Fakhrul Islam, Chairman of Social Work Department of RU, told BSS that the authorities had already expelled Masud Rana and temporarily cancelled admission of 8 students.

“After submission of the final report by the probe committee, we will permanently expel Masud Rana and cancel admission of 8 students”, he said.

The probe committee was formed of a month ago.
