The market price of the newly harvested Boro rice marked a fall by Taka 2 per kg on an average in rural areas of the northern districts as the local markets have been flooded with the newly harvested Boro paddy.
The price of the same remained almost unchanged in the urban areas, farmers, officials and market sources said.
They said an all-time record bumper production of Boro crop is likely this year as the farmers are getting excellent yield rates at this peak time of harvesting the major crop in the region.
So far, harvesting of Boro crop in around 45 percent land has been completed and the percentage may cross 75 by this month end if weather remains favourable, officials in the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said.
Sources in markets of different northern districts told BSS that the newly harvested course variety Boro rice was selling between Taka 17 and 18 per kg in the rural hats and bazars.
But, the price of the same is still around Taka 20 in the urban areas. Fine varieties of rice are being sold at higher rates both in rural and urban areas with a difference of Taka 2 per kg on an average, the sources said.
Farmers are getting excellent yield rate of the crop that grew well everywhere due to favourable climatic conditions this year.
