Engage women in decision-making policy

Finance and Planning Adviser Dr A.B. Mirza Azizul Islam yesterday emphasised the need for engaging women in the decision-making saying "the overall advancement of the country would not be possible if women have not been involved in the mainstream of power since they are the half of the national population."

"A country cannot prosper on social or economical terms by placing women outside the decision making level," he said addressing as chief guest an international seminar titled 'Women in Decision Making'.

Reiterating the commitment of the present Caretaker government for socio-economic uplift of the women, the Adviser opined that the women's contribution would help utilising the public expenditure in a proper and meaningful way.

Bangladesh Audit and Accounts Cadre Women Forum organised the seminar at a city hotel.

The Adviser also called upon the women to demonstrate their abilities uniquely while working with their male counterparts.

The Adviser stressed the need for the continuation of creating more congenial atmosphere for women to work.

He urged the women officers to extend cooperation in ensuring accountability and transparency in public expenditure, a commitment made by the present government to the nation.

Comptroller and Auditor General Asif Ali, Brunei Darrussalam Auditor General Datin Paduka Hajah Salmah Binti Haji Hanifiah, Head of development cooperation and economic affairs of the Netherland Embassy Fritz Meijndert, UNFPA representative Pornchai Suchitta and acting DFID representative in Bangladesh Elizabeth Carriere also spoke at the function.

Secretaries, diplomats, representatives of the development agencies and high officials were also present.
