The government has imposed ban on return of Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh apprehending that if she returns at the present time law and order might be deteriorated, prevailing stability disturbed and public safety and economic life jeopardized.

The Ministry of Home Affairs in a press note yesterday said that the Government would take special cautionary measures on Sheikh Hasina’s return home.

As part of the measures, the press note said, immigration authorities at air and land ports, all flight operating authorities in Bangladesh and others concerned have been asked to take necessary actions to prevent return of Sheikh Hasina. However, the press note said that the measures taken by the Government were temporary.

Hasina, who is now in USA on a personal visit, was scheduled to return home on April 23.

The press note said the decision was taken in view of the AL chief’s recent “provocative and malicious” remarks against the caretaker government and the law enforcement agencies at different meetings abroad, and talking to local and international media.

“If Sheikh Hasina returns home at the present time, she might again make provocative remarks as in the past and create hatred and confusion through her activities against public discipline,” the press note said.

The press note held Sheikh Hasina largely responsible for non-stop street protests and other political activities that what it said, "eventually led to the state of emergency".
”Country's law and order, security and economic life were threatened by an irresponsible, non-stop movement by the Awami League and other political parties,” the press note mentioned.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Civil Aviation Authority and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) have also been requested to take necessary measures in this regard.
Explaining the decision, the press note said the government learned from reliable sources that Sheikh Hasina might return from USA on April 23. Recently, the press note said, while staying abroad Hasina addressed different meetings and rallies and gave interviews to national and international media making provocative and divisive statements against the caretaker government and the law enforcing agencies.
The press note also mentioned that Sheikh Hasina herself is concerned about her personal security and requested the government through her party for special security measures.
For the above-mentioned reasons, it said, the government has taken special cautionary measures concerning Sheikh Hasina’s return home at this time in the public interest.
Meanwhile, Adviser for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and Information Barrister Mainul Hosein after a meeting with Adviser for Communications Maj Gen (Retd) MA Matin and Home Secretary Abdul Karim told reporters that politicians must understand that the country is passing through a critical phase.

Holding the politicians responsible for the current situation, he said army-backed government would not require if they did not create the situation, Caretaker government, for the second time, would not have been formed and state of emergency was not needed if the crisis was not created.

In an interview with the channel I, the Law Adviser said the political leadership that was responsible for disorder in public life and economy by creating chaos and anarchy must be changed.
“The politicians should take measures in this regard,” he observed.
