10 JMB men get life-term in Rajshahi

A court in Rajshahi awarded 10 JMB members life-term and three others 20-year imprisonment on charge of chain bomb explosions in Joypurhat on August 17 last year.

Judge AFM Aminul Islam of the Speedy Trial Tribunal of Rajshahi delivered the verdict in presence of 23 out of 27 members of the outlawed Jama’atul Mujahedin Bangladesh men, who hail from Joypurhat district.

The court also acquitted 14 people, as they were not found guilty.

The court also fined them Tk five thousand each in default to suffer another one year imprisonment.

Those who got life-term are: Atowar Rahman, Majnu, Mehedi Hasan alias Raju, Dulal alias Harez, Likhon alias Shariful Islam, Montejar Rahman, Azizul Bari Mintu, Tuhin alias Nazmul Hossain, Abdur Rauf and Monsur Rahman.

Of them, Mehedi Hasan, Likhon, Montejar and Monsur Rahman have been absconding since the deadly blasts.

Besides, Rabiual Islam alias Rabi, Jahangir Alam alias Liton and Golam Mostafa were sentenced 20-year imprisonment for their heinous act.

Meanwhile, Dulal Hossain, Shariful Islam, Aminul Islam, Hafez Shariful Islam, Mostafizur Rahman, Selim, Mozammel Haq, Idris Ali, Abdur Jabbar, Habibur Rahman, Afazuddin, Rezwan Bari, Abdul Mabud and Ziaur Rahman were acquitted from the charge.

Soon after the blasts on August 17, a case was filed with Sadar thana in this connection.

After investigation, police submitted chargesheet accusing 27 members of JMB.

On February, the case was shifted to the Speedy Trial Tribunal of Rajshahi.

Special Public Prosecutor (PP) Ketab Uddin moved for the state while advocate Jahurul Islam, Syed Ekramur Rasul, Saiful Alam and Mozammel Haq pleaded for the accused.
