Music is truly the one universal language of mankind. Throughout the world's history many styles have developed. This is the perfect time for promising singers. Many budding artistes have been added to our music arena from the beginning of the 90s. This is a good sign for our culture and tradition. Some of them have already taken a prestigious place in our music arena for their hard work and creativity. Creativity comes from nature but you cannot reach a certain position without diligence. Pankaj was the hero of the 90s’s making his music speaks the universal language of bringing one's inner feelings to life with tunes.
His contemporaries included great icons such as S. D. Rubel, Monir Khan, Asif and Tipu like the promising singer. To put it simply, I love music. No compromise when it comes to creating it.‘ I have been doing music all my life. I have, literally, grown up doing music. My dream had only to become a musician. So doing music comes naturally to me,’ says Pankaj. The culture of fusion music has proven to be successful with old timers like the band Renaissance, Souls, Obscure, as well as newcomers on the scene such as Habib and Maqsood, one of the pioneers of the folk music fusion scene. Pankaj makes use of jazzy beats and rhythm mixed with lyrics and overall sound of Mystic music in his works. Although he composes some folk music and some of them have already hits the music scenario. " I think my audience is more mature," says Pankaj. "I do not only target teenagers although a lot of them enjoy my music because it is band based. On the whole, however, my music reaches out to all type of audiences.
I create songs according to what our audience likes or dislikes. I think audience is the main judge for any creation.’ Pankaj believes in perseverance and contemplation. He wants to stay in music arena in the rest of his life. For the last few years he got the chance to participate many national and international concerts. Sometimes, he works for some mixed albums. Speaking about his job, he says, "I’ve tried to experiment, combining eastern with western music. In this type of fusion music I have tried to mix blues with raggae, soft rock and western pop with eastern music. I want peace and harmony around me. For me good music involves good, soothing lyric and tune: the interest in it should be retained even if I’ve heard it often.
I think that music is an integral part of relaxation and stirring of passion whether we are in the east or west. Music to me not only a hobby but also a great passion to me." Pankaj‘s journey in the realm of music world started in 1994. From the year of 1994 to 1995, he worked as sound engineer at "Art Studio", one of the leading music studios in our country. Pankaj eventually left the job to concentrate more on music. Music is his passion. Basically, he is a keyboardist.
Beside this, he also voyages through other fields of the creative faculty. Pankaj became well known to the music lovers after the success of "Rangamela", his first album. Pankaj believes in spiritual perceptions. In spite of having all the signs of modernism he keen to maintain the traditional trend in music. "Rangamela was the first album in our country where many artistes participated in a body. My next work was Azam Khan’s solo album "Bangladesh-2". After tremendous success, I joined Ark in 2000 as a keyboardist. After one and a half years working with Ark, I joined "Dalchut". I am still with this band." It is mentionable that, Pankaj has done many Title Music in various popular programmes on different TV Channels in our country.
Travel on and Bubble-up music net on Channel-I and ATN Bangla’s "Din Suru Houk ATN Diea are among those. This is the time when many singers get popularity by doing Jingle. "Before doing jingle, firstly, I think about the consumer level of the product. After then I prepare for the music composition so that, the jingle can easily strike the audiences’ mind and the people can feel from the distant place without viewing particular advertisement. If the jingle touches people mind, then I think my work has been successful.
The product’s sale immensely depends on the jingle. A lot of products are getting popularity only for jingle. For good sale of products, I always try to make catchy and mind-boggling jingle. If the jingle is hit, musician also gets popularity in promptly. Mentionable that, recently our many ads are prepared in outer world. This affects economically and culturally our jingle industry. We have been losing our currency." Added Zahid Bashar Pankaj.
For the last few years, Pankaj has done at least 250 jingles specially, Keya, Bashundara, Bata, Horlicks, Parashoot, Sharif Melamine, Sun-Crest and some others jingles are continuously aired on different TV Channels. "There are many talented singers in our country whose can perform like that of internationally reputed musicians. But proper patronisation, suitable ambience and lacking of music institution are the main causes for them not to reach the goal.
There is no any software based music institution in our country where upcoming singers could get opportunity about sound system, keyboard, guitar and other significant aspects of the musical technology. This is very regretful that our young singers could not get any chance to add modern technology in their music. I entered this field as my passion and hobby. My father was a banker who did not want me to come in this field. In 90s, I was a great fan of L.R.B’s Bacchu. Still I am his fan. During that time, I watched many concerts and musical shows, which had inspired me to become a musician. Mannum Ahmed is my favourite key-boardist, Tipu is favourite for drum and Bappa Mojumdar, Baby Naznin, Asif and Samina Chowdhury are my beloved singers." Pankaj expressed. Zahid Bashar Pankaj hails from Dhaka. He married in 1997. He wants to stay in music arena in the rest of his life.
